LILY ALLEN’S VEGAS NUPTIALS
THE SINGER HAS LOTS TO SMILE ABOUT AS SHE AND THE STRANGER THINGS STAR TIE THE KNOT
While they attempted to keep their engagement on the down low for months, no-one was surprised when Lily Allen tied the knot with David Harbour in a Las Vegas chapel on September 8. Having obtained a marriage license the day before, the singer and the Stranger Things actor were married by an Elvis impersonator at the celebrity-friendly Graceland Wedding Chapel. The only guests at their intimate ceremony were her daughters, Ethel, 8, and Marnie, 7.
And despite being relatively private about their year-long romance, the pair couldn’t wait to post photos from their special day on Instagram. “In a wedding officiated by the king himself, the people’s princess wed her devoted, low born, but kind credit card holder in a beautiful ceremony lit by the ashen skies courtesy of a burning state miles away in the midst of a global pandemic. Refreshments were served at a small reception following,”
Harbour, 45, shared alongside several snaps of their low-key nuptials.
The affair was strikingly different to Allen’s first wedding to ex-husband Sam Cooper, with the singer, 35, and Harbour choosing to forgo the formalities of a traditional union. Instead, the couple opted for the quickie ceremony followed by a meal at a nearby burger joint.
It’s been over a year since Allen and Harbour were first linked. The couple were spotted enjoying a West End production in London in August last year, then a string of PDA-filled outings ensued.
And the nuptials have put an end to months-long speculation that they were indeed getting set to wed. In late November, the singer started sporting a stunning diamond on her ring finger but kept surprisingly tight-lipped about the new piece of jewellery. Back in May, the singer caused a frenzy when she posted an Instagram photo showing off the sparkler.
“Um… engagement ring?” asked one follower.
“First rule of engagement club…”
Allen responded, referencing Brad Pitt’s line from the movie Fight Club. “The first rule of Fight Club is: you do not talk about Fight Club.”
But the cat is well and truly out of the bag with the couple’s nuptials. “It’s no surprise,” a source previously shared with Woman’s Day. “Lily and David were meant to be.”
Although they had been enjoying a transatlantic romance for many months, with Harbour based in New
York and Allen in England, the actor moved into her London home when the pandemic began. “They already talked about children, and as great as David is with her girls, she would love to give him a baby of her own,” the Woman’s Day source added. “I’d say being pregnant won’t come long after the wedding.”
It’s a very happy ending for ‘The Fear’ singer, who has suffered many heartbreaks in recent years.
The break-up of her four-year marriage to Cooper in 2016 and the stillbirth of her son, George, after she contracted a viral infection when she was six months pregnant in 2010, were extremely painful experiences for the mum-of-two.
Allen has also been open about her battle with substance abuse. But after marking one year sober in July, and her relationship with Harbour clearly going strong, it seems things are back on track for the singer. “She’s never been happier,” an insider explains. “She’s practically glowing.”
