THE GREAT EIGHT
An intentional colour-coordinating capsule that will get you through the warmer months
Updating your spring wardrobe can sometimes seem a little pointless, given it’s more of a transitional season. Mornings and evenings can still be a little cool yet before we know it, temperatures are soaring and then even that lightweight trench coat you were wearing becomes a little too much. So let us guide you towards the neutral basics for 2020 that are not only spring ready but summer proof, too. You can still keep those winter trackies for at-home comfort while adding some of these newbies to your cart.
1 VINTAGE SWEAT
A cotton sweater is still a must on those cool mornings or brisk nights. If you need an update, make it vintage-ish with this heritage remake from Country Road. Tuck it into a pair of shorts and elevate the look with heels.
BOARDROOM SHORTS
Known as Bermuda shorts, this style was everywhere on the international street style stage and it’s hanging around for a second spring/summer season. They’re spring’s answer to work trousers if you’re heading into the office. But they’re also a good out-to-lunch-with-your-girlfriends option paired with a relaxed ribbed tank.
HIGH HOPES
Need some extra height without heels? Try slightly elevated sandals. We’re not talking crazy flatforms, just a little extra oomph for days when you need extra comfort and style. It’s a maxi dress’ perfect match.
COLLECTABLES
A nice handbag seems obsolete at the moment with only the essential shopping tote and an old crossbody needed, but buying a newbie is definitely a mood booster! If your wish list is endless, choose a timeless “collectable” you know you’ll cherish forever and watch the guilt disappear. We love the new collectable edition of the classic Frida shape from Oroton. The woven detail adds a spring in our step, and it’s the perfect tone of brown for practically every outfit.
MAN UP
Another solution to your sweat pants addiction is a pair of masculine, wide-leg trousers. The comfort level is on par and they take out first prize in the fashion stakes for best work wear pants. Their tailored, “dressed-up” vibes mean you can style them with a simple tank, T-shirt or button-up for an easy but chic look.
DRESS UP
A tiered cotton maxi dress is the dress of the season. It’s comfortable enough as a “house” dress and elegant enough for a day out. Extra points for one with gathered detailing in a warm terracotta shade. Just add sandals and gold hoop earrings. Voila!
TANK TIME
If it’s hot, reach for a tank with ribbed detailing. It’s trending again this season and it’s the only singlet you’ll need in your wardrobe – just ask Mrs Huntington-Whiteley! Tuck it into wide-legged pants, or wear it with your Bermuda shorts – easy dressing.
KEEP KNITTING
There were two types of people this year. Those that got dressed even though they were WFH, and those who didn’t, instead staying in their trackies or pyjamas – both are great options. We were definitely the latter option and even as it starts to warm up, we can’t bear to part with our comfy clothes. It’s possible by swapping your sweats for a lightweight, cotton knitted set. It’s comfortable and appropriate for a coffee run.
