THE COUPLE ARE ALREADY PLANNING A SECOND ADDITION TO THEIR BROOD
They’ve kept most details surrounding their daughter close to their chest, but Cameron Diaz and Benji Madden gave the world a glimpse of the 17-month-old while out running errands in Los Angeles on June 4.
The couple, who welcomed their little girl in late 2019, showed off their parenting skills as they hit the local shops, with Madden, 42, balancing the tot on his hip before Diaz, 48, loaded her into their car. It was a new look for the stars, who haven’t been publicly spotted with their daughter since her arrival. “It’s been heaven,” Diaz previously gushed to Jimmy Fallon on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon. “It’s the best thing that ever happened to both Benj and I. We’re just so happy.”
The pair announced Raddix’s birth in January last year via Instagram. “We are so happy, blessed and grateful to begin this new decade by announcing the birth of our daughter, Raddix Madden. She has instantly captured our hearts and completed our family,” the couple wrote, before adding that their little girl “is really really cute … some would even say RAD”.
“They can’t believe how much their worlds have turned upside down and are already thinking, ‘Why did we leave this so long?’” an insider said of the pair at the time. Although Diaz has said she and Madden have been soaking up every moment with their little one, pals say adding another to their brood is definitely on the cards. “They are thinking, ‘Let’s give her a brother or sister, let’s make a bigger family,’” a source told The Sun. “[Benji’s] a twin so would love for his daughter to have a sibling close in age.”
Although the star insisted back in 2014 that she was “never drawn to being a mother”, things have certainly changed since welcoming her daughter. “Being a wife and a mother, it’s just the most, what’s the word I’m looking for? Rewarding … I was like, it’s not validating in any way it’s fulfilling. That’s what it is. It really has been the most fulfilling part of my life so far,” she previously shared on SiriusXM’s Quarantine with Bruce podcast. “I just feel like it’s everything that, you know, I probably somehow waited for this so that I could do all that other stuff. I just feel so blessed that I get to be here now with my child and, you know, get to be the mother that I get to be. It’s such a blessing, it’s completely privileged, and I’m just really, really grateful.”
In April last year, the actress opened up about how the pair were juggling parenting together. “After we do bath time with our
baby and we put her to sleep, Benji puts her to bed,” she explained. “He’s so good. He’s such an amazing father. I’m so lucky he’s my baby’s father. He’s incredible. He puts her down and I go into the kitchen and I pour myself a nice glass of red wine. I start my cooking, I put on my show, whatever it is.”
Those shared parenting duties are likely to come in handy, if recent whispers that Diaz might be eyeing up a return to work in the near future are to be believed. The actress reportedly only wants to take on projects that allow her to be at home with her daughter more often than not, and that will likely be even more of a priority if a second child is soon to be on the way. “A comeback will have to happen on her terms,” explained an insider, “or not at all!” Having put her career on the backburner after marrying Madden in 2015, Diaz previously insisted she “wanted different things in her life”. Becoming a mother appears to have fulfilled her completely, with the star recently calling parenthood “the most ratifying time in my life”. “It’s so gratifying to actually get to see that growth and to be a part of it and to help just let her be her,” she shared.
Diaz and Madden could soon be preparing to have double the fun, with a second mini addition to their family. “Cameron can’t wait to have another child,” an insider recently told OK! magazine. “She’s hinted it’s already in the works and she’ll likely opt to use a surrogate, like she did with her daughter.”
