INSIDE CHRIS AND ELSA’S WORLD
AFTER A DECADE TOGETHER, THE COUPLE ARE LIVING THEIR BEST LIVES DOWN UNDER
TChrisheir whirlwind courtship had many wondering whether their relationship would stand the test of time. But more than a decade on, Hemsworth and Elsa Pataky’s spark is still burning bright. The couple tied the knot in December 2010 after being introduced by their agent earlier that year. Although the nuptials were somewhat of a spontaneous decision, Hemsworth, 37, has said it “just felt right”.
“There was no great plan to any of it, to be honest,” the Thor star told Good Morning Britain in 2016. “We were on holiday and we said, ‘Why don’t we get married, too?’ … There probably should have been some planning but it all worked out. Honestly, we had both our families on holiday at the same time, just randomly, and we said this is a good opportunity with everyone together so we just did it.”
Although the pair knew from the start they were meant to be, Hemsworth admits that seeing Pataky, 44, become a mother – first to daughter India, 9, in 2012 and then to twins Tristan and Sasha, 7, in 2014 – really solidified their union. “Watching her be a mother made me fall even more in love with her,” the actor gushed in 2015. “Once we had kids we were like, ‘We’re in it, this is it.’ All of a sudden I had a greater appreciation for my wife, she kind of came into her own when we had kids. She certainly keeps me sane. I complain about things, she gets on with it.”
While Hemsworth’s fame continued to skyrocket in the early years of their relationship, Pataky was more than happy to take a back seat – having already become a household name herself back in her native Spain. “When I met Chris, he was just starting out,” she previously shared. “I had started young and I had worked a lot. I was happy to take a break and just be a mum …
We met in a great place for both of us. I was totally confident within myself.”
Although Hollywood was a fan of Hemsworth, the actor wasn’t such a fan of some of the things that came alongside the fame and yearned for a simpler life for his little ones. So the family of five upped and left Los Angeles and headed Down Under in 2015. “The locals in Byron treat us just like locals. It’s more relaxed than LA, less intense, and just more conducive to raising our three children,” he said at the time.
It’s here the couple have made a home – and a rather large one at that! Early last year, Hemsworth and Pataky completed renovations on their $30 million property
in Broken Head, creating a safe haven for their brood and loves ones. And it’s here the family spent the better part of the pandemic, after Hemsworth coincidentally announced he was taking a break from acting the year before. “I just want to be at home now with my kids,” he said at the time. “They are at a very important age. They are still young and they are aware when I leave more than before.”
Despite their lives seeming like something out of a fairytale, Pataky insists their relationship hasn’t been a walk in the park. “It’s funny that people think of us as a perfect couple,” she admitted to Body and Soul last year. “No way. It’s been ups and downs, and we still keep working at the relationship. I think a relationship is constant work. It’s not easy. I always try to see the positives of things.”
We can see plenty of positives about this love match!
