THE SINGER CELEBRATES HER ENGAGEMENT AND HER BID FOR FREEDOM IS FINALLY A SUCCESS
While he’s confessed to wanting to take their relationship “to the next step”, Britney Spears’ beau Sam Asghari had never actually put a ring on it – with her conservatorship restrictions seemingly putting a stop to any proposal plans in the past. But with the legal arrangement looking more and more likely to end in the very near future (see breakout box), the 27-year-old has finally popped the question to his long-time lady love!
The 39-year-old’s partner of five years first sparked whispers he was set to propose when he was spotted jewellery shopping at Cartier in Beverly Hills on September 2 – with the personal trainer perusing the diamond rings and even taking a snap of one in particular.
“It’s never been a question of, ‘Will it happen?’ It’s always been about when,” an insider recently told Entertainment Tonight. “It’s all very real for Sam especially, and engagement is on his mind now more than ever.”
So much so, Asghari couldn’t wait to ask Spears to be his bride – with the pair confirming their engagement just 10 days later on Instagram. “I can’t f--king believe it,” the singer captioned a video showing off her 4-carat round-cut diamond with her fiancé by her side.
A representative for Asghari also confirmed the news, telling WHO’s sister publication People magazine that they are “proud to celebrate and confirm the engagement”. “Britney and Sam made their long-standing relationship official today and are deeply touched by the support, dedication and love expressed to them,” the rep said, adding that Spears’ new ring was designed by NYC jeweller Roman Malayev. “He couldn’t be happier to be involved and make this one-of-a-kind ring.”
The following day, Spears again took to Instagram to share her excitement, admitting that the engagement was “way overdue”. “Words can’t even say how shocked I am,” she shared with her followers, alongside a picture of her husband-to-be. “It was definitely worth the wait … Yes world … that beautiful f--king man in that picture is MINE! I’m so blessed it’s insane !!!! ”
An engagement is the start of what should be a happier chapter for the star, having long said she wanted to “have the real deal” with Asghari. “They are ready to embrace that next chapter, and love each other without limits or without feeling like they are on a leash,” the ET insider added of the couple.
Though they’re happy for the singer, family, friends and fans alike are still wary of what could happen once the pair officially tie the knot. But insiders say Spears isn’t as naive as some might think. “Britney is already working on a prenup,” a source told People magazine. “She understands that this is necessary.”
For his part, Asghari doesn’t appear too fussed about any legal arrangements that might be forthcoming. “Thank you to everyone who is concerned about the prenup,” he joked on social media. “Of course, we’re getting an ironclad prenup to protect my Jeep and shoe collection in case she dumps me one day.”
Jokes aside though, the personal trainer says his only priority is seeing his fiancée content at last. “I just want her to be happy. If something makes her happy, I’ll do it,” he recently told Men’s Health. “What’s that saying? ‘Happy wife, happy life.’”
