ROYAL THE DUKE AND DUCHESS RETURN OF SUSSEX

HARRY AND MEGHAN KEPT A LOW PROFILE OVER THE JUBILEE WEEKEND

-

Despite their highlyanticipated return to British shores, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle spent most of the jubilee weekend keeping a low profile and relishing in private moments with family and friends.

Their only public, official engagement was the Thanksgiving service at St Paul’s Cathedral, where they were seated far from their immediate family. In times gone by, Harry sat front and centre with William and Kate for such occasions. But this year, the sixth in line to the throne was forced to realise just how far down the royal pecking order he’s fallen since the Sussexes moved to California and went on a media blitz complaining about their life in The Firm.

Harry, 37, and a Dior-clad Meghan, 40, arrived – reportedly to the sound of boos from the watching crowd – more than 20 minutes before the Cambridges and Prince Charles. But they didn’t let the demotion or the frosty reception get them down.

At the service’s conclusion, the couple was well back in the family procession as they departed the stunning church, and chose to skip the reception at Guildhall attended by the rest of the Mountbatten-Windsor clan in favour of spending time with their gorgeous children at Frogmore Cottage in Windsor.

Sadly, royal watchers were quick to note there was no interaction between the Sussexes and Charles, William and Kate, though they did strike up a brief conversation with Zara Tindall, everyone’s favourite royal cousin. “This could have been the moment Harry and William showed the watching world that there is a chance of reconciliation between them, but it was not to be,” says one palace source. “The Sussexes being sat well back and across the room from William was not by accident – aides pored over that seating arrangement for weeks in advance. It sent a clear message that their star within the family has dimmed.

“Meghan tried her best to paste on a smile but there was no hiding Harry’s fury about the whole situation, which might explain why they were no-shows at the concert the following day.”

The famous couple were snapped arriving back in Montecito, California with Archie and Lilibet, along with what appeared to be some birthday presents for their little lady.
