It was the home they wanted to grow old in, but Ellen Degeneres and Portia De Rossi have put their $58 million Santa Barbara mansion on the market, with friends claiming their crumbling marriage is behind the sudden sale.
“They were spending a lot of time at the house and turned it into a real home,” says a source. “But now Portia is hardly there. They’ve been spending a lot of time apart and when they’re together they fight a lot.”
Friends say tension between the pair is so bad they suspect the profits from the sale will be used for a divorce settlement.
The heartbreaking demise of her marriage may explain why Portia, who has been outspoken about her battles with eating disorders, was looking worryingly thin once again last week.
“She wasn’t wearing her wedding ring,” an onlooker says. “Things have been very tense, and when Portia gets stressed she stops eating.”
