Delta Goodrem I’D LOVE TO BE A BIKER CHICK

-

With her House Husbands debut looming, singer Delta, 32, spills the beans on her free-spirited, motorbike-riding character, and her favourite castmates.

Were you familiar with the show before being cast? Mum and I had watched numerous episodes together and had really invested in it. I loved that it was sentimental, heartfelt and family orientated, but also really funny.

Tell us about your character… Izzy is a teacher who is really free-spirited, but she has a troubled past with an ex-boyfriend that impacts everyone, so she enlists the help of the house husbands to try to get out of a tricky situation.

Is there anything about Izzy you particularly identify with? You won’t see me hooning down the freeway on a motorbike – but if I was taught how to, I’d give it a go! What I like about Izzy is that she’s a loving character. She also has a great rapport with the kids. I relate to her in the sense that I love kids, and with my job as a coach on The Voice, I find a lot of young people will come and ask me questions, which I love!

What was it like to join the cast of such an established show? They couldn’t have been more open, friendly and warm. They were everything you would hope they would be, so I felt really embraced by the team.

How have you enjoyed working with Hugh Sheridan and Gary Sweet? Straight out of the gate, Hugh and Gary were so helpful. They ran lines with me and got right into it, which I greatly appreciated. I loved the scenes we shared and felt really inspired as they’re both so talented.

Delta appears on Monday, April 3, in a special double episode.

‘They were everything you would hope they would be’

The 7070-yearyear-old Oscaroscar-winning actress talks new show Feud, playing a screen icon, and being a hopeless yet loveless romantic…

Were you worried about taking on a role as iconic as Bette Davis? Yes! I was really scared and I wasn’t sure I wanted to do it. But I had a brilliant guy who helped me put down all her lines on my phone and I’d listen to them – not only for her accent, but also her

H How difficult w was it to nail Bette’s ma mannerisms? Wellwell, that is the challenge aand so scary because the memory of her is so large. At times I wondered if I should be doing more, at other times less.

If you could say anything to Bette now, what would it be? If she was happy with her life. I think she would probably say, “Yes, as painful as it was.” There is a quote in one of her books where she says, “If I feel something thent I’ll go after it, evene if there is a c chance that I might getg hurt, because th there is no point in goinggo through life pr protecting yourself.” I rereally admire that abo about her.

HowHo bad was the rea real-life feud between Bette and Joan Crawford? It was really nasty. There were a lot of people that pitted them against one another for a lot of reasons. They had innate jealousies.

Your co-star Jessica Lange, who plays Joan, has won a few Emmy Awards and you’re yet to win one. How are you going to tackle that feud? Oh, I’ll just go for the knees! I’ll just hit her from behind [laughs].

You’ve been single for a couple of years now. Do you still believe in romance? Unfortunately, yeah! I go out and I see everyone looking like they’re in love and I just hate them for it. I’m very romantic. But you know, it could happen.
