You know those people who you go out to lunch with and without you even noticing they’ve passed on the bread on your behalf? They’re the type of people who hardly look at the wine list before saying, “I’m fine with water.” They’re the “I’ll just have a salad” people and the “Is everyone done here?” people at yum cha, when you’re still mapping out in your head your next haul from the trolley. Well, I’m not that person. I’m more of a “More pork buns?” kind of girl. This is why when our lifestyle editor Elin told me she was running The Sneakiest Diet Ever in this week’s issue she had my full support. Speaking of easy, our food director Jennene has thrown down the gauntlet, challengin­g me to make a three-course Japanese menu at home. For someone who’s had sticky rice from one end of the kitchen to the other with a succession of failed sushi over the years, I’m feeling even Jennene’s recipes may have me crying into my gyoza and heading to the local sushi train in defeat!
