Delta fights back

Fans turn against the pop sweetheart – but she’s not backing down writes ZARA ZUBEIDI

ongstress Delta Goodrem has hit headlines for all the wrong reasons in recent weeks, and with animosity towards her only getting worse, she’s been left with no option but to speak out and defend herself.

The Voice coach, 32, has been slammed by viewers for “bulls**t theatrics” during the show’s blind auditions, but last week she came under fire once more for her harsh critique of 20-year-old Liz Conde’s rendition of Whitney Houston’s I Will Always Love You – with one fan going so far as to brand her a “bitch”. Ouch!

“The criticism is all just water off a duck’s back because the reality of what I get to live with is

‘You don’t know everything about me and nor should you…’

very different,” Delta says. “I have only the intention of making people’s day better and if someone has an intention that’s the opposite of that, then that’s their problem.”

But in spite of her nonchalant attitude in the press, sources tell Woman’s Day Delta believes someone is out to get her and she’s almost certain who it is. Now she’s secretly on a mission to expose the traitor.

“Delta’s convinced someone on The Voice is trying to make her look bad. The way she’s promoted on the show gives so much ammunition to the haters and to trolls,” an on-set source tells Woman’s Day. “She knows it’s someone close to her and is devastated it keeps happening.”

She’s putting on a brave face, but Delta’s ever-dwindling popularity is beginning to take its toll. Earlier this month, the former Neighbours star admitted she has plans to take some time out from showbiz once this season of The Voice has wrapped.

“I have a few projects coming up, but until then I’m going to relax and unwind.

“Even if it’s just for a second,” she told TV Week.

With speculation about her closeness to fellow coach Seal continuing as a result of their flirty antics on screen, Delta also hinted she’s struggling to cope with life in the public eye.

“You don’t know everything about me and nor should you,” she said, before adding, “I believe in the mystery of not having to say everything at all times, and have always kept a private life.”

Indeed, our source says Delta is all but fed up with the constant scrutiny she faces each day – and it’s making it hard for her to trust those around her.

“Delta’s really worried that someone in her inner circle is selling her out, and leaking intimate details of her life,” adds our insider.

“She doesn’t know for sure who is betraying her but she has her suspicions and it makes it difficult for her to trust anyone.”

Thankfully, Delta has a strong support network around her, and she says she’s been relying on her “amazing” family and friends to help her get through this difficult time. As well as confessing she speaks to mum Lea on the phone every day without fail, Delta says it’s her oldest friends who have her back.

“I’ve had the same friends since school. They’re my touchstone and make sure I laugh my way through all the different seasons of life,” she said recently.

If there really is someone out to tarnish Delta’s reputation, they can be sure she’s ready to face her critics head-on!

“I was a lot more of a people-pleaser in my 20s but it’s easier to stand up for yourself and say ‘no’ in your 30s,” she says defiantly.

“It’s like I woke up that day and went: ‘Right, this is who I am, this is what I do, this is what I stand for and this is what I won’t stand for.’”

Our source adds, “Delta refuses to give in to the trolls and has no plans to change how she performs on the show. Delta is completely confident in herself, and she’s not going to apologise or change for anyone!”
