Tom Cruise’s secret flirting with Sam Armytage

We spy sparks between the Sunrise presenter and the actor!

Blushing Sam Armytage couldn’t wipe the smile off her face as she sat down to interview Tom Cruise on Sunrise last week – prompting rumours there was something more going on between the pair than just a chat for the cameras.

The flushed TV presenter giggled as Tom – who was in Australia to promote The Mummy – described himself as “romantic”. He went on to admit he’d happily serenade a woman in a bar – just like his character Lt Pete “Maverick” Mitchell does in Top Gun – if it meant being able to win her heart.

While Sam couldn’t help but swoon, her co-star David “Kochie” Koch was quick to point out the pair’s chemistry. “I thought there was a connection between you and Tom,” Kochie told Sam after the interview.

“Stop it,” Sam joked, before Kochie added, “There was. The way he looked at you and shook your hand.”

“He just shook my hand. Stop pimping me out. I thought it was nice,” the blushing host said, before conceding, “He is gorgeous. I really liked him.”

And that wasn’t the only sign of a budding romance between the Sunrise host and the US film star.

In what fans believe was a secret signal to Sam, Tom happily admitted he loves nothing more than exploring new cities “in the middle of the night” when nobody is around.

Tellingly, his comments mirror Sam’s dating style, who has admitted previously she loves sneaking around at night-time. “I do go out on dates, just very discreetly and very quietly… it’s all baseball caps and dark corners of restaurants,” she told Woman’s Day last year.

Fans didn’t miss their connection, either. “You look good together Sam!” commented one fan under a picture the host posted of herself with the actor after the show. “So much chemistry,” wrote another viewer.

And the flirting continued off set when Tom, 54, was later pictured deep in conversation with the pretty 40-year-old. He even held her hand and affectionately put his arm around her, sparking rumours Sam might’ve caught the eye of the world’s biggest film star – and maybe even lined up an after-work liaison.

It’s certainly not the first time Sam has been romantically linked to an A-list interviewee. In February 2014, she was reported to be dating Modern Family’s Eric Stonestreet, 45, after they hit it off while the show was shooting here.

They later enjoyed a “five-hour lunch” at Sydney’s swanky Chiswick restaurant.

“There’s nothing to talk about. There’s nothing to say. It was a lovely lunch,” a coy Sam said at the time.

A few months later, it was reported she was “like a kid before Christmas” when she interviewed Russell Crowe, 53, admitting he was “good fun” – and her schoolgirl crush. But Sam played down those rumours too, saying, “He’s a lovely guy but we are not dating. I’ve met him twice.”

As they’re based on opposite sides of the world, it remains uncertain whether Sam and Tom will manage to develop their budding feelings – but it’s clear the bubbly host has a soft spot for the Hollywood hunk.
