He’s best known for his observational humour, but when it comes to Jerry Seinfeld’s personal life, he’s not kidding around.
It was the late ’90s, and after spending nine years honing one of the world’s most successful sitcoms, Jerry turned down a reported $100 million to make a 10th series of the show, and instead chose to focus on his personal life.
His gamble paid off – within a few months of the show wrapping in 1998 he had met and fallen in love with his wife, Jessica Sklar, who is now a cookbook author.
The couple went on to have daughter Sascha, now 16, and sons Julian, 14, and Shepherd, 11. “I wasn’t surprised that I loved fatherhood as much as I did,” says Jerry. “We spend a lot of time together and I enjoy every second of it.”
Despite his own huge success, Jerry, 63, says his kids are his harshest critics.
“They can be a tough audience,” he says. “I had this joke the other day that I tried on them that I thought was really funny, but they just looked at me and theyey went, ‘Dad, that’s not funnyy at all.’”all.’ ”
Jokes aside, the comedianomedian says his life has changednged for the better since becoming ming a father at the age of 46.
“Fatherhood is completelympletely world view-changing,” g,” he says. “My son is learning to o play the Superman theme song on the piano as a present t for my birthday. Catching him m doing that completely changes ges your life. He knows I love Supermanuperman so he decided he’s going ing to do that as a present.”
