The Block fights

With one team hammering home their will to win, the drama is already at fever pitch

-

They’re the supremely confident Blockheads who haven’t been afraid to gloat about their renovating experience in front of their fellow contestants.

But while outwardly Georgia and Ronnie have been making life on The Block look like a breeze, behind the scenes their “ruthless” attitude hasn’t done them any favours.

Now their fellow Blockheads are forming secret alliances behind their backs. “They’re definitely here to play a game and they’ve made it quite clear,” says carpenter Sticks, who with teammate Wombat has formed a close bond with Melbourne couple Josh and Elyse, in a united front against Ronnie and Georgia.

“Once the cameras are here, it’s game faces on and they get very upset if they don’t take a win,” says Sticks, 31. “Or, if they can stop someone from presenting a room, they’ll jump on that opportunity.”

His partner Wombat, 38, is equally shocked by the couple’s attitude. “It’s a bit strange for us, we don’t normally have someone come out and say ‘I’m not here to make friends and I’ll do whatever it takes to win… whether it means crushing anybody else.’ ”

There’s no love lost between Josh and Elyse and Ronnie and Georgia either, who fell out over the opening 48-hour challenge.

“It has been difficult from the start with Ronnie and Georgia,” says Josh, “because they took $8000 off us and they were very competitive. They’re playing this game and cutting people off at the knees and we’re not about that.”

His girlfriend Elyse, 24, adds she was taken aback by how quickly Ronnie, nicknamed Mr Hollywood on set, adapted to the cameras.

Josh, 28, adds: “He froths off it, he’s like ‘come at me!’. Nothing against him, but it’s just not how I would act.”

They’re keen for a win, but Ronnie, 41, and Georgia, 33, also know they’re not well-liked.

“People aren’t really into us,” says Georgia. “We’re the kind of people who’d rather get an early night and do research, than go out drinking with everyone.”

Ronnie adds: “We’ve come here with one thing in mind – winning.

“The last thing I want a year down the track is to think, we shouldn’t have had those big nights. It’s just not worth it.”

Georgia insists it’s not only their lack of socialising that’s ruffling feathers. “They’re all closer because they don’t feel threatened by each other.”

Looks like it’s game on!
