Living apart and barely speaking to each other, the star couple’s short marriage is in disarray
It was an ominous sign for her marriage when Jennifer Aniston moved out of the New York apartment she shares with her husband Justin Theroux and into a nearby hotel, as reported by Woman’s Day last week. Now, in devastating news for fans, we can reveal the couple have agreed to a temporary separation as their two-year marriage threatens to fall apart once and for all.
Despite them both returning to Los Angeles late last week, 48-year-old Jen and her second husband are continuing to live apart – with the actress leaning on her former Friends co-star Courteney Cox for support amid her marriage crisis.
“Jen and Justin have hit rock bottom,” a close friend tells Woman’s Day exclusively. “As soon as they arrived back in LA last week, Jen went straight to stay at Courteney’s Malibu home, because she and Justin still couldn’t bear to be under the same roof.
“The situation is dire. They’ve been having split talks, which has resulted in them agreeing to a temporary separation to give them both some space to work through their issues and decide what they want to do privately, before making the potential decision to divorce – which they know will be a media furore.”
The shock news comes shortly after the pair celebrated their second wedding anniversary on August 5, and amid reports Justin’s flirty behaviour with his The Leftovers co-stars has become all too much for Jen.
Meanwhile, her renewed friendship with first husband Brad Pitt, 53 – who is rumoured to be doing a joint interview with her on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon – has
reportedly pushed 46-year-old Justin over the edge.
“They’re keeping the separation as quiet as possible – even from many of their friends – until they work out what they’re going to do,” reveals our source. “But Jen met with her lawyers on Friday night to look through their pre-nuptial agreement.
“She’s a mess right now and is inconsolable. She says she feels like she’s reliving the heartache she went through with Brad all over again.
“She’s trying desperately to put on a united front with Justin, but inside she’s crumbling, and behind closed doors she’s barely eating and struggling to sleep,” the friend reveals.
With neither Jen nor Justin budging when it comes to what they want in their marriage, insiders fear their trial separation could last weeks. And after reports they’ve disagreed for years as to where they should base themselves – Justin loves New York while Jen has been pushing for the couple to reside permanently in their Beverly Hills home – it’s likely they’ll be seeing very little of each other from now on.
“Justin’s due to jet back to New York soon and Jen has no plans to go and visit him as it stands, as she insists she needs time to think about what she wants,” our source adds.
“If Justin can’t give her what she needs and prove to her that he wants to fight for their marriage, she’ll have no choice but to pull the plug and file for divorce.”
