If Cosima De Vito’s baby doesn’t grow up to be a singer, it won’t be for lack of trying! “I’m singing to it a lot, I sing lullabies and big songs, anything I feel like singing really,” laughs the former Australian Idol star who is 19 weeks pregnant with her first child.

Bursting with excitement at Woman’s Day’s exclusive photoshoot, Cosima, 40 – who made the top three of the first season of Australian Idol in 2003 – says she feels like the luckiest woman in the world.

This time five e years ago, Cosima couldn’tuldn’t have imagined she’d be expecting a child ld with the man of her dreams. ams. Single for 10 years butt desperate to become a mum, m, she resigned herself to a future ure as a single parent, and evenen made an appointment at an IVF clinic.li i

But now, happily married to her husband of two years, Gus De Romanis, 52, the pair are preparing to welcome their first child in January and are even planning baby number two!

“Because we’re both older, we’ve already discussed the fact that as soon as this one comes we should start trying for another. We both have two siblings so we’re used to a big family,” says Cosima excitedly, as she cradles her baby bump.

“Gus thought he’d retire in 10 years – but our lives are only just beginning!”

The couple exchanged vows in July 2015, and on that very day they revealed to Woman’s Day they’d waste no time in trying for children.

With Cosima’s due date looming, she admits Gus, a butcher by trade, is feeling the pressure of becoming a dad for the first time. “He’s a little bit nervous about the labour. Even though he’s a butcher, he doesn’t like blood – he’s worried he’ll faint!” she laughs. “But he’s been busy coming up with ideas for a music playlist. I want something relaxing, but he’s thinking more along the lines of Push It by Salt-n-pepa!”

Cosima and Gus were introduced through mutual friends, and it took him just three weeks to know he wanted to pop the question.

Now, their real-life fairytale is almost complete. “Becoming a mum was the only thing missing in my life. And this has been a long time coming for Gus, too,” she says. “All his friends are dads already so he’s over the moon.”
