It’s been described as “one of the finest offerings of the year”, and for good reason. Based on an attack in April 2004 – known as Black Sunday – the story follows a US army platoon who were ambushed in Sadr City, Baghdad, as well as the effect it had on those waiting back home. In this episode, Lieutenant Shane Aguero (EJ Bonilla) makes a decision that will scar his platoon forever. Back in the US, Gina Denomy (played by Kate Bosworth) – who had a baby boy before her husband Troy left for Iraq – tries to reassure worried families as they learn of the ambush.
He’s been married more than two decades, so it’s safe to say Brendan “Jonesy” Jones has the art of maintaining a relationship covered.
But it seems his new book, based on his personal life and media career, has caused quite a stir in the Jones household!
“I didn’t think of the consequences of the book. Helen almost divorced me because she didn’t like my portrayal of our early meeting.
“And there’s a lot of stuff in there about my escapades during my teens. My son Dominic is in year nine [there’s also Morgan, 25, and daughter Romany, 20] and wants to put the book in his school library. I was like, ‘Oh, God!’” the radio star laughs.
In the book Jonesy, 49, also opens up about his relationship with WSFM radio co-star Amanda Keller, 55, and by the sounds of it, parts of the story have left her unimpressed, too.
“Amanda is reading the book at the moment and she said, ‘I don’t think I’d have liked you when you were younger.’”
Thankfully the pair now share a close bond, both in and out of the studio.
“I can’t imagine doing a show without her. We have that brother-sister bond. When I first met her I was instantly smitten,” he gushes.
Jonesy and Amanda even hang out at weekends.
“We’re always around there for dinner. Amanda is a great cook – plus she does a great cheese platter!” FIFTY SHADES OF 50 is out now (New Holland, $32.99)
