Nicole’s meltdown over marriage crisis
The actress did nothing to hide her distress when she was forced to play nice with Justin Theroux, amid friend Jen’s marriage crisis
Her good friend Jennifer Aniston is in the middle of a relationship crisis, with many tipping her marriage to Justin Theroux is over. So Nicole Kidman was horrified when she was seated next to Justin at an event in New York – with Jen nowhere to be seen.
Nic, 50, did little to hide her feelings towards the actor, all but melting down as she turned to a friend in a frenzied attempt to avoid him.
“It was pretty obvious that she didn’t want to be near Justin and have to make small talk with him,” an onlooker tells Woman’s Day. “She tried to get moved to a different spot and looked agitated while talking to a friend about it. But it would have been too obvious if they made a big fuss about moving her.
“In the end, Nicole just had to suck it up and act like everything was fine. But she still made it clear she would rather have been seated almost anywhere else!”
Jen, 48, and Nicole first met and hit it off at a party in 2005, and co-starred in the 2011 Adam Sandler movie Just Go With It.
“Nicole always had so much sympathy for Jen during her divorce from Brad Pitt, especially given the situation with Angelina Jolie,” says a source close to the Aussie actress. “It’s no surprise she’s taking the same approach as far as Justin is concerned, and she probably knows all about the problems in their relationship.
“Nicole is a good friend. Once someone is part of her life, she’s totally loyal and will stand up to anyone who crosses her friends.”
If Justin, 46, thought Nic would just grin and bear it during their awkward encounter, it wouldn’t have taken him long to realise she wasn’t up for playing nice.
“She was even trying to avoid the conversation by leaning across Justin to speak to [actress] Michelle Williams on his other side,” the onlooker explains. “Nicole’s disdain for Justin was noticeable – it was seriously awkward.”
Jennifer and Justin celebrated two years of marriage in August, but haven’t been seen in public together for months.
“Friends and family don’t see how they’ll be able to salvage things at this point,” reveals an insider. “It’s really important to Jen to have a good group of close friends around her at all times, and she’s been leaning on them a lot lately.”
