With her new man labelled a bad boy, friends fear the Aussie singer is playing with fire… again
Bronzed and beautiful Delta Goodrem looked happier than she has in months as she posed for a holiday selfie in Hawaii with friends and new boyfriend, rocker Matthew Copley.
According to sources, the budding new couple met a few months ago during her Wings Of The Wild tour, and rang in the new year together on the tropical island.
And while it seems like the 33-year-old songstress is smitten with the handsome guitarist, friends are said to be worried about her latest romance after all that’s been said in the LA socialite circle.
An insider tells Woman’s Day, “Delta has appeared really happy over the past couple of months, and it looks like that’s down to Matthew. But friends are concerned he’s going to lead her down a path of heartbreak if she’s not careful. He seems to be the kind of guy who parties hard, and Delta could use some stability in her life right now.”
Matthew’s Instagram posts regularly include photos of him drinking, smoking and posing with beautiful blondes, as well as his love of a good time.
“I’ve seen those eyes before. Somebody up to no good,” said one friend next to an Instagram post, while another joked he looked “cooked”. The rising star, who hails from Australia and is now based in LA, has no qualms about celebrating his hedonistic lifestyle, claiming to model himself after legendary wild rock stars including Led Zeppelin guitarist Jimmy Page.
Delta and Matthew are believed to have met in October or November, and the chemistry was clear in a video he shared of them making music together around that time. But the Born

To Try singer, who spent much of 2017 in an on-off relationship with actor Hugh Sheridan, has a history of dating bad boys and friends fear her decision to date Matthew could be a reaction to things ending with Hugh.
Delta’s relationship with Blair Mcdonough finished when she found out he’d cheated on her, according to the singer – and she broke up with tennis star Mark Philippoussis after reports he’d cheated on her with Paris Hilton. After calling off her
engagement to Brian Mcfadden in 2011 she admitted she’d been “really unhappy”. She’s had flings with Nick Jonas and playboy DJ Chris Stafford, and confessed she’s dated “a few duds”.
Friends want to make sure Matthew – who counts musician Conrad Sewell and English rapper Example as friends – is with her for the right reasons.
“Everyone hopes things are going to be different with Matthew, but given her past they’re obviously concerned,” explains the insider.
“It’s clear he wants to become famous and there’s no denying he’d be attracted to Delta. They’re praying this is the real deal, because she’s smitten.
“He doesn’t seem like a guy who’s ready to settle down and they want her to be happy. She definitely wants to get married and have kids someday.”
