Inspired by Hollywood’s #timesup movement, Nicole Kidman is finally ready to speak out
She’s the toast of this year’s awards season, celebrating wins at both the Golden Globes and the Critics’ Choice Awards for her role in Big Little Lies.
But behind the big wins, those close to Aussie actress Nicole Kidman say she’s been feeling very reflective in recent weeks, spurred on by Hollywood’s female-led #timesup movement.
And on Martin Luther King Jr Day on January 15, she shared a powerful quote from the activist, “Our lives begin to end the day we become silent about things that matter.”
Friends believe the statement is more than just a tribute to the late leader, and doesn’t only refer to the recent group of female stars speaking out against sexual harassment.
Now, a source close to Nicole has told Woman’s Day this could be a very real sign she’s preparing to tell the truth once and for all about her past – namely her time married to Tom Cruise and her brief stint as a Scientologist.
“There’s obviously a lot there Nic hasn’t talked about before. The word is that she could be getting ready to tell-all on what really happened with Tom and her adopted kids,” our source explains. EXPOSING SCIENTOLOGY “Itit’ss a ssensitive subject, but Nic is a big part of the Time’s Up movememovement, and that no doubt has caucaused her to think a lot about ththat time in her life,” tells the soursource, adding there’s talk it must hhave inspired her to want to speak out.
“God knows what she went through during those years, but Sciescientology can be pretty extreme and it must have had an impaimpact on her marriage in many ways.”
And wwith rising public interest in how mmembers of the church or relatirelatives of Scientologists have bebeen affected by it, the source ssays, “[Nic] will be
fielding offers to do TV interviews left, right and centre,” if she shares her experience.
Nicole, 50, and Tom, 55, separated in 2001 after more than 10 years of marriage and share two adopted children, Isabella, 25, and Connor, 22.
Although Nicole – who’s now married to country star Keith Urban – insists she’s still close with the children she shares with Tom, it’s been years since she’s been spotted in public with either Connor or Isabella.
Both of the children chose to live with their father after the split, and continue to practice Scientology.
STRAINED RELATIONSHIPS
“It’s a bit of a minefield for Nic to navigate,” explains the insider. “If she did talk about Scientology, it could put more of a strain on her relationship with Bella and Connor. She likes to stay on good terms with everyone in her life – including her exes – but people have been asking for years what went down with Tom.”
And the insider continues, “She has to think very carefully now... Given she was married to Tom for a decade and he’s such a big part of it, she must know a lot of bombshell secrets.secrets.”
