‘I HAVEN’T HAD A DRINK SINCE 1992!’

-

Comedian and radio star Dave Hughes is up to his usual tricks in his new show Hughesy, We Have A Problem – taking the mick out of other people, and himself, of course! Each week he’ll invite a bunch of entertainers to solve Australia’s big issues, as well as their own problems. Is Hughesy the “agony uncle” we never knew we had? We can’t wait to find out!

Do you offer up advice to friends?

We’ve all got issues, and I like to hear other people’s problems. And when something bad happens to me, I talk about it on stage. Everyone laughs and then I feel OK about it!

What’s the worst advice you’ve ever given?

When you tell someone to break up with someone and they get back with them. That’s awkward.

You dish out a lot of dating advice on the show. Have you had any disaster dates?

I went home with a single mum once and remember feeling really uncomfortable. I didn’t know how to leave so I said I was going to the bathroom, and I jumped over the back fence. I bumped into her a few days later and she said, ‘What the f*** did you do?!’

If Tinder was around when you were dating, what would your bio be?

Something lame, probably. I would’ve spent my whole time on it swiping right!

How’s your weight-loss mission going?

I’ve gone down from about 90kg to 80kg. I’ve just given up chocolate and cakes. I have a sweet tooth – the teeth I have left, anyway.

You recently spoke about how you gave up alcohol. Are you still sober?

Absolutely. I haven’t had a drink since 1992. I was depressed at the time and didn’t know what I wanted to do with my life. As soon as I stopped I felt better, and didn’t wake up thinking, ‘What the f*** happened last night?!’ HUGHESY, WE HAVE A PROBLEM Tuesday, 8.30pm, Ten
