Incredible twins

Identical twins Rachael and Rebecca’s special ‘twin power’ left hospital staff stunned

-

When Rachael Mcgeoch couldn’t be induced into labour, she knew there was no doctor that could help bring on the birth – all she needed was her beloved twin sister Rebecca Pistone by her side.

After calling her for help, Beccy – who was also heavily pregnant and expecting to give birth 13 days after Rachael – drove 140km from their home in Brewster, Massachusetts, US, to her sibling’s hospital in Cambridge to hold her hand.

As her 34-year-old twin comforted her, making sure she took deep breaths, Rachael went into labour naturally, leaving the medical staff stunned.

“The doctors tried to induce me for two-and-a-half days and nothing was working,” Rachael says. “Beccy just being there made such a difference. I couldn’t have done it without her.”

Not long after meeting little William Charles, who was born at 10.41pm, it was Beccy’s turn to have her baby – despite not being due for almost another two weeks!

But after labouring into the early hours of the morning, Beccy was struggling. Despite nurses trying to move the baby into the right position, Rachael’s help was all she needed. Using their “twin power” the pair – who are both married to men named William – banded together to bring on the second birth!

“We sat with her and shortly after she was fully dilated. Twenty -four minutes later, she pushed out little Andi Isabella,” Rachael says with a smile.

“There are so many awesome things about being a twin, but this might take the cake. It was twin power at its finest!”

Since their birth, the tiny tots have been the best of friends, visiting each other for play dates once a week. And Beccy couldn’t be more excited about the bond they will share as they grow up.

“They are so cute together. They seem to get a sense of calm whenever they’re together,” she says. “I think it will be really fun to have them together when they grow up. Hopefully they’ll be as close as Rachael and I have been. It’s always been our dream for them.”
