EVERYTHING YOU DIDN’T KNOW ABOUT THE WEDDING

-

Meet Bishop Curry’s family!

With his fiery, rambling sermon about the power of love that had even the most stuffy royals smiling, Bishop Michael Curry nearly stole the spotlight from the bride herself.

And so began the world’s fascination with the 65-year-old man of God from Chicago.

While many looked shocked at his firebrand style of preaching – which included the words, “We need to get y’all married” – it has been confirmed that Bishop Curry has had a relationship with the royals for several years.

In fact, in 2015, Queen Elizabeth appointed him a serving brother of the chivalric Order of St John, which founded the worldwide St John Ambulance service.

Despite royal weddings traditionally being conducted entirely by ministers from the Church of England, Bishop Curry was chosen to give his sermon in honour of biracial American Meghan joining The Firm.

Bishop Curry is the first African American to lead the Episcopal Church, where he is supported by his loving organist wife, Sharon.

The couple have two adult daughters, including Rachel, a self-employed mother who suffers from lupus and oftens turns to her father for advice.

“My dad has taught me that we will all make mistakes and stupid decisions, but most things short of death can be worked out,” she says.

Michael and Sharon’s younger daughter Elizabeth is a teacher working on her master’s degree.

Despite the Episcopal Church having a reputation for erring on the conservative side, Bishop Curry is an outspoken campaigner for social justice, marriage equality and immigration issues – causes close to Meghan’s heart.

Meghan’s special gifts for her bridal party

Meghan gifted her little bridesmaids with white leather Aquazzura shoes emblazoned with their initials and the wedding date, while pageboys were given monogrammed epaulets.

The bride’s adult friends – including new sister-in-law Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge, and long-time bestie Jess Mulroney – didn’t miss out either, with Meghan presenting them with custom-designed gold chain bracelets designed by Lisette Polny. Aptly named the Kensington Bracelet, the jewellery is now available online for $450.

Those involved in the couple’s key causes were also given gift bags with a commemorative chocolate coin, Windsor Castle Water and shortbread biscuits – which some quickly put on ebay, where they fetched up to $3500.

Why Posh was fuming

Amid the magic of the wedding, there was one dark cloud over the day – the evident tension between David Beckham and his wife Victoria.

The couple barely looked at each other, let alone spoke when they arrived at St George’s Chapel but both lit up when chatting with other guests.

British commentator Piers Morgan was quick to declare them “frosty”, while many described Victoria as “miserable”.

This follows several months of rumours that there’s trouble in their marriage, which will hit the 19-year mark on July 4.

Several insiders have confirmed to Woman’s Day that the couple – who have four children, Brooklyn, 19, Romeo, 15, Cruz, 13, and Harper, six – are together “in name only” these days.

“There hasn’t been any passion between them for years. They lead extremely separate lives,” says one insider. “At this point they’re only staying together for the kids and their brand. They can barely stand to be in the same room!

“After seeing how unhappy Posh was at one of the most joyous events of the year, friends are whispering they won’t be able to keep up the charade much longer.”
