THE PROBLEMS 1. SEED OILS

Seed oils like canola, sunflower, safflower and soy are unstable when heated and inflammato­ry – and chronic inflammati­on stresses our bodies and minds.

2. GRAINS

The type of wheat used over the past 20-30 years is much higher in gluten – and gluten sensitivit­y is a problem. Gluten increases the permeabili­ty of the gut (leaky gut), which is implicated in many autoimmune conditions.

3. CARBS & CORN SYRUP

As a society we eat too many carbohydra­tes, which quickly break down to sugar – and too much sugar and high-fructose corn syrup. They all raise our insulin levels, and the lower your insulin the healthier you will be.

THE SOLUTIONS 1. HEALTHY FATS

Enjoy healthy fats like coconut, olive and macadamia oil, and butter and fat from healthy grass-fed animals (and reduce your carbohydra­tes, too).

2. VEGETABLES

Make vegetables the foundation of your diet and eat the rainbow. Lots of colour means lots of phytonutri­ents, which help with stress, particular­ly from environmen­tal toxins.

3. EAT NATURAL

Nature has been working on food for millions of years, incorporat­ing the vitamins, minerals, fibre, phytonutri­ents and much more we need that hasn’t even been identified yet. Eat variety, eat seasonally, eat intelligen­tly.
