Next year will mark two decades since Mariska Hargitay started playing Olivia Benson on Law & Order: Special Victims Unit.
And with the 20th season of the show currently airing, rumours are swirling that the 54-year-old is ready to throw in the towel.
“Mariska feels like she’s done all she can as the star of the show and it’s time to embark on the next chapter of her life,” a source recently revealed.
“Mariska’s departure will be gradual and a wellplanned transition to create the least amount of chaos possible.”
While the star’s rep denied she is planning to leave behind, she set tongues wagging when she put her Manhattan townhouse on the market six years after buying it.
The actress and her husband Peter Hermann, 51, extensively renovated the property – but are now selling it for just $70,000 more than the $15.1 million they bought it for.
“It seems like Mariska is hoping to make a quick sale, and people are wondering if this is a sign that she’s planning to leave New York altogether,” an insider tells Woman’s Day.
“It’s no secret that she’s interested in getting behind the camera and directing more.
“It would be sad to see her quit the show, but 20 years is a really good run by Hollywood standards. And when she does leave, she wants to go out on a high!”
