The singer, actor and TV presenter, 43, talks about her exciting new role as Changing Rooms host

Congrats on the role! What convinced you to take it?

It was a no-brainer! When they said the words “Changing Rooms” I thought it was quite funny because I’m forever changing rooms in my own house, whether it’s swapping the lounge room with the dining room or changing the colour schemes. So I was like, “You had me at Changing Rooms!”

Maybe you should have been a contestant instead!

I think I’m too much of a control freak to let someone do that to my house! But I’ve always had a passion for interior design.

What can viewers expect from the new

Changing Rooms? It’s so fast-paced. Every week you’re going to get six room reveals and meet new families or couples, so there’s never a dull moment. It also gives you lots of great cheap little tricks and tips you can do yourself, too. We’re really showing the viewer you can change your whole house with a fairly limited budget.

Are you a big renovator?

I’ve renovated our houses before but in saying that, I don’t do the renovations. I like the design more than the renovating – it’s a bit of a hobby of mine. I’m always creating my own little mood boards, buying home magazines and looking on Pinterest for inspiration.

Has there been a standout couple so far?

I honestly couldn’t choose! They all have a very individual design aesthetic but then tailor it to whatever space and you

just never know if they’re going to love it or hate it. That in itself is kind of crazy – it keeps me on my toes. There was actually one room reveal where the contestant opened her eyes and said, “I hate it.” I didn’t know what to say… my jaw hit the floor! You’re usually so glam – was being on this kind of set a shock for you? No, I actually I love it! I love having a go and getting my hands dirty. I’ve even jumped in and helped some of the couples with their renovations – I’m the queen of flatpacks!
