Behind The Scenes

The desperate housewives of Wisteria Lane have nothing on Australia’s Bad Mothers!

She’s worked as a model and an actress, but Tess Haubrich’s new role is unlike any she’s done before. This time she’s playing a mum – a naughty one – in the new Aussie series Bad Mothers. At the centre of the drama is Sarah, whose life starts unravelling when she finds out her husband is having an affair. The ensemble cast includes home-grown heavyweights Melissa George, Mandy Mcelhinney and Daniel Macpherson. Tess, 28, opens up about life on set and what she loves most about her character.

What initially interested you in the role of Sarah?

She’s a mother who seemingly has everything, but her personal life falls apart. She’s a complex character and a fantastic mother and woman. I wanted to play a role that had vulnerability and strength and Sarah had both.

What was it like working with this amazing Aussie cast?

It was great. Everyone brought so much to their roles. It was wonderful to watch. Life on set was constantly interesting. I really had the best time.

What is it about motherhood that makes it so compelling to watch on screen?

Motherhood is something that affects everyone in some way. They’re interesting stories to explore as everyone can relate.

What do you love most about Sarah?

I love Sarah’s strength! She faces many challenges and she rises above them. Her life isn’t easy and she’s a great mother. I found her inspiring to play.

Do you have a favourite on-set moment or scene?

I loved the scenes when the Bad Mothers get together and drink wine and talk about their problems and try to help each other. It was great working with such talented actors. Girl power!

Which of the Bad Mothers is your favourite?

Everyone is unique and did such a great job. The characters are all so different – it’s too hard to have a favourite!
