happiness after heartbreak

In town for the European leg of his world tour, Michael Buble and his wife Luisana Lopilato last week enjoyed Italy’s record hot summer with a family fun day in Florence. Accompanied by their three children, Noah, five, Elias, three, and 11-month-old Vida, the couple appeared to be in high spirits as they took in the city’s iconic views and historic sites. The sunny family holiday comes eight months after the Feeling Good singer, 43, opened up about his eldest son Noah’s tragic battle with liver cancer in 2016.

“It was the worst possible thing that you could hear as a parent, maybe as a human being,” said Michael, who put his career – and his entire life – on hold for the next seven months to care for his son.

Indeed, the devastating diagnosis changed him as a person, with the Canadian crooner admitting, “I am different. You don’t go through big things in your life, dramatic things like I’ve gone through or my wife has gone through, without it having an effect on you.”

Michael says he “needed to put [music] aside” to focus on his family and deal with their pain away from the spotlight. But he says of his return to the music world, “Coming back was really beautiful. I feel like every performance, every time I meet somebody on the street, it’s really an opportunity to look them in the eye and express my appreciation and how grateful we are for their love and their compassion.”

Almost three years on from the worst news of his life, Noah’s cancer is in remission and the Buble family don’t take anything for granted.

“Every day should just be joy,” he says.
