THE CHRISTENING WAS THE FINAL STRAW!

Harry and Meghan spark outrage as they ban royals and the public alike from Archie’s big day

-

For a royal baby, his or her christening is usually a grand occasion and a cause for celebration, not only for members of the family, but for fans around the world.

Traditionally, the royal couple invite a photographer to capture the event, allowing gorgeous images of the little one to be beamed around the world as the christening happens.

So when it was revealed last week the Duke and Duchess of Sussex would instead be hosting a private affair on July 6 to christen Master Archie within

the Queen’s chapel at Windsor Castle for just 25 guests and no press, it certainly ruffled feathers through Great Britain and beyond.

Not only did they snub fans from seeing the procession into the event, but they also chose not to release photographs until the following day.

What’s more, the royal couple insisted they wouldn’t be revealing the names of Archie’s godparents, a move that added to speculation Harry’s brother and sister-inlaw, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, may have been snubbed.

Unfortunately for Meghan and Harry, their decision to keep the event under wraps has sparked fury across England, just weeks after they came under fire for blowing their taxpayer-funded budget on a $4.4 million luxury upgrade to their home, Frogmore Cottage.

And even Woman’s Day’s long-time palace insiders are flabbergasted that the couple are behaving in such a “spoiled” way – especially given they’ve already copped a massive backlash for their behaviour since their wedding last year.

ROYAL REPUTATION

“Everyone is outraged at the fact they think they can have it both ways,” one palace source explains. “The general consensus is that they were quite happy to spend millions of taxpayer dollars on their home to hide away in, but when it comes to giving something back in the form of a couple of cute photos of Archie, they say they’ve done enough.

“In their eyes they’re doing nothing wrong other than living the life they see fit for their family,” adds the insider.

“And they won’t budge – even though everyone from the Queen down knows this spells disaster for the family’s reputation. Prince William is especially miffed – he and Kate have spent the past decade trying to change the public’s perception of the family and make

them more relatable, and now Harry comes along and does exactly the opposite. This latest stunt will do nothing to repair tensions between the brothers.”

‘NORMAL’ LIFE

Harry, 34, and Meghan, 37, who are said to be trying for baby number two already, reinforced their plans to give their son a “normal” life when they didn’t bestow upon him a royal title, along with shielding him from the public eye. This included an underwhelming post-birth photo call in which cameras barely caught a glimpse of his face, followed by just a couple of obscured shots of Archie shared on Instagram in the following weeks.

And it’s not just fans who feel put out. The intimate guest list for the christening means many important people didn’t receive an invite to his big day.

“They only allowed access to a few family members, the chosen godparents and, of course, Meghan has a couple of close celebrity friends she insisted on inviting. But that’s it,” another palace source reveals.

“It’s as if they’re not thinking of anyone else but themselves.

DIFFERENT APPROACH

“When you compare it to how Prince William and Kate celebrated their children’s christenings, it’s in stark contrast to Harry and Meg, and that’s a big reason people are finding it a difficult pill to swallow.”

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge positively welcomed royal supporters by dedicating areas for meetand-greets outside the churches where Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis were baptised.

“There’s no denying Harry and Meghan are losing fans and respect at a rapid rate,” adds our insider.

On top of the christening drama, it’s also been reported that they’ve just lost their third nanny since Archie’s birth on May 6 – on top of five other staffers fleeing the palace since the couple married.

“They’re gaining a terrible reputation, and people won’t stand for it much longer.”
