Former Wiggle

Greg’s colourful kids’ group

-

When original Yellow Wiggle Greg Page launched his new band Team Rescue last week, fans were quick to compare it to the world famous children’s group that made him a multimillionaire.

But Greg, 47, who forfeited his share in The Wiggles in 2006 after suffering repeated fainting spells, slurred speech and fatigue, which was later diagnosed as orthostatic intolerance, insists nothing could be further from the truth.

“For me, this is not about taking on The Wiggles in any way, or comparing the potential of Team Rescue to that of The Wiggles,” he tells Woman’s Day.

“I’d like to think that they would be fully supportive of it.”

While Wiggles fans were going crazy on social media, speculating about a potential feud or that Team Rescue could be Greg’s revenge on his old bandmates, The Wiggles themselves shrugged off any suggestion of a war between the two kids’ groups.

“Greg’s a good mate of ours and we wish him all the best in his post-wiggles career,” says the band’s managing director Paul Field, who is Blue Wiggle Anthony Field’s brother.

Team Rescue, which aims to teach kids about how to stay safe, does however look very familiar to fans of The Wiggles.

The four members of Team Rescue wear primary colours, albeit slightly different to

The Wiggles’ famous skivvies, and the bands both appeal to the same audience.

“There was no intention to compete with The Wiggles,” explains Greg, who received an estimated payout of $20 million when he cashed out of the band 13 years ago.

“The only intention was to create something that would help save lives and prevent injuries. The colours of the characters in Team Rescue have nothing whatsoever to do with The Wiggles.”

You can make up your own mind – both shows air on ABC Kids and ABC iview.
