When your best friend’s marriage ends, it usually follows that her ex-husband is immediately dumped from your social circle. However, it appears Jennifer Aniston’s closest friend Courteney Cox doesn’t follow that rule, after she was spotted sneaking into Jen’s former Manhattan marital home, which is still occupied by her ex Justin Theroux.
And it wasn’t just a casual house call – Courteney, who is engaged to Snow Patrol rocker Johnny Mcdaid – came
armed with a party-sized bottle of Grey Goose vodka, ready to help celebrate Justin’s 48th birthday.
“Jen never liked it much, but Courteney insisted on keeping in touch with Justin even after they split up,” says a source.
“She argued that they got on like a house on fire while Jen was married to him, and that their break-up shouldn’t change that.
“Justin’s always been very supportive of Courteney, and she lights up when she’s around him. She tells people she finds spending time with Justin creatively fulfilling – she thinks he’s a genius.”
While Jen was able to stomach Courteney and Justin’s social media banter and occasional texting, sources say the 50-yearold would find Courteney spending Justin’s birthday with him “a total betrayal”.
“There is no love lost between Jen and Justin, and to find out Courteney’s still falling all over him is like a punch to the stomach,” says our insider.
“Of course, there’s nothing romantic going on between them – Courteney is extremely committed to Johnny. But to Jen, it’s all about loyalty. Their friendship groups were totally intertwined during their marriage, but most of them were originally Jen’s friends in LA as he was so tied to New York. All of Jen’s West Coast friends have fallen into line and remained by her side, but for some reason, not Courteney, who is closest with Jen out of all of them.”
