Woman’s Day (Australia)

Dani Willis Queen of the cricket WAGS

With a $30,000 handbag collection and addiction to designer clothes, Dani Willis has taken cricket’s other coveted crown

She’s the woman credited with helping save Steve Smith after the ball tampering scandal, and as the former Australian cricket captain continues to win back hearts in London, Dani has cemented her position as No.1 WAG.

“With her dozens of designer sunglasses and those $7000 Chanel handbags she flashes in almost every post-match photo, Dani is no girl next door any more!” snipes one cricket insider, who claims she spends tens of thousands a month on designer labels.

“She’s definitely the new Queen Bee. Since she became Mrs Smith last year, she’s really raised the stakes in terms of spending, and I know some of the other WAGS are jealous of what seems to be her unlimited budget.”

LIVING THE HIGH LIFE

And Dani, 27, has certainly been living it up since she flew out of Sydney in May to support Steve, 30, as he made his comeback in the World Cup in England, spending an estimated $100,000 on her own five-star tour of celebrity hotspots.

After sunning herself at Montserrat in the Caribbean, Dani flew to Spain’s Balearic Islands, before rubbing shoulders with stars like local resident George and Amal Clooney during a lavish few days in Lake Como.

When she returned to London to spend time with Steve, Dani was also spotted enjoying VIP treatment at Royal Ascot and Wimbledon in July before she jetted out to Sardinia, Cinque Terre, Monterosso and Portofino in Italy. She was in Paris for the final day of cycling’s Tour de France.

“You can understand why some of the other WAGS are seething with envy,” says our source. “When Steve was sidelined, Dani kept a very low profile, but that’s all gone out of the window now he’s back in the team, and proving he’s every bit the brilliant batsmen he was before he was banned over the ball tampering.”

Dani has been revelling in Steve’s incredible comeback – he hit two centuries in the first Test of the Ashes series – and shopping up a storm in London’s designer boutiques and confirming her No.1 spot as an influential WAG.

TENSION ON TOUR

“I know the officials are a bit concerned there could be a backlash because some of the WAGS are constantly on social media flaunting their wealth, and there’s simmering tension between some of them, which could boil over,” reveals our insider.

He says “it’s funny watching” Nathan Lyon’s girlfriend Emma Mccarthy, captain Tim Paine’s wife Bonnie, bowler Pat Cummins girlfriend Becky Boston and Marcus Harris’ partner Cat Mcateer try to outdo Dani and Usman Khawaja’s wife Rachel in the style stakes.

“The officials are keeping a close watch because if there’s one tantrum or catfight, then there’s a very real possibility that the WAGS will get sent home, but we’re all hoping it won’t come to an all-out war between them.”
