EVEN MORE MONEY SAVING!
Make the most of earlybird season with Webjet OTA CEO DAVID GALT’S tip ps
Book 11 months in advance for peak-season travel
Airfares booked 11 months before departure date can be significantly cheaper. Typically, this is when an airline’se’s first level of pricing is released, and the more full the plane becomes, the higher the airfare. Last year, some earlybirds booked June flights from Sydney to London for just $672!
Fly into smaller alternative airports
Airfares can be more expensive when flying into large international airports, usually due to airport taxes and airline capacity. Flights into second-tier airports near your destination may be cheaper. For example, Chubu Centrair International Airport in central Japan could be an alternative to flights into Osaka and Tokyo.
Look at open-jaw flights
Instead of purchasing a return airfare, book an open-jaw flight [that sees you] flying into one city and out of another. This gives you the freedom to travel in one direction without wasting money to double back. Webjet has a Multi City/ Stopover option in the search widget so travellers can easily book an open jaw trip.
Go for low-cost airlines with add-ons
While a majority of low-cost airlines are used for short flights, many are branching out to long-haul overseas routes, like Jetstar, Scoot and Air Asia X. To make your low-cost carrier flight more comfortable, it may be worthwhile paying for extra leg room and make sure you purchase adequate baggage – it will save a nasty surprise at the airport.
