THEY’VE NEVER LOOKED SO MISERABLE
A supposedly idyllic getaway ended in disaster after a string of explosive rows
Aromantic Italian holiday following weeks apart should have made for a blissful reunion for Nicole Kidman and Keith Urban, but instead their European getaway was fraught with tension and explosive arguments.
Now sources tell Woman’s Day that their make-or-break holiday has confirmed what they both feared – that their 13-year marriage is in serious trouble.
Alarm bells were ringing even before they touched down for their child-free getaway after a tense appearance at the Global Ocean Gala in Monte Carlo, Monaco.
Known for their loved-up displays of affection on the red carpet, a furious Keith could barely persuade himself to pose alongside his wife, forcing her to plaster on a smile and have pictures taken solo.
“It was so awkward,” says an onlooker.
“It would have been better if Keith had stayed at home because he did nothing to hide the fact he didn’t want to be there. He didn’t just look fed up – he looked angry and as though they were still in the middle of a massive argument.”
WANTING A NORMAL LIFE
Another source says their latest fight started at the luxury hotel they were staying at, where things are thought to have gotten so bad between the couple that they stayed in separate rooms.
“Whispers were that Keith booked himself another room to get away from Nicole,” says the source. “He didn’t want to go to Monaco in the first place – she pretty much dragged him there – and then all they did was argue.
“When he has a break from touring, like now, he just wants them to live a normal life at home, but she insists on going to all these paid appearances around the world – and he’s expected to tag along.
“They haven’t seen each other for more than six weeks, and then when they do get time together Nicole makes it about work.”
The insider says Nicole, 52, booked the Italian leg of their trip in a bid to make things up to Keith, 51, but relations were so strained between them that it was far from fun.
‘Nobody would be surprised if they decided to call it quits’
“Keith looked like a man who was ‘done’. He looked completely defeated, as if he just wanted the trip to be over,” says the insider, adding that’s how the singer feels about his marriage right now.
“It’s one fight after another and it’s completely and utterly draining. Keith feels Nicole doesn’t trust him and wants to constantly keep an eye on him. Even when he’s away on tour, she suffocates him by checking in on him.”
Even though she helped him get sober 12 years ago, Nicole is worried Keith might
fall off the wagon, and her doubts are yet another issue starting to drive a wedge between the once rock-solid pair.
“Nicole seems to be tightening the reins at every given turn and Keith can’t help but feel she’s controlling him,” says our source.
But when it comes to Nicole’s life, Keith feels like she shuts him out.
LACK OF SUPPORT
Her recent revelations that her two children with her ex-husband Tom Cruise, Isabella, 26, and Connor, 24, chose Scientology over her, came as a surprise to Keith, who had no clue she was going to make that public.
“Nicole didn’t tell Keith what she was planning to say and that stung. They had a huge row about that, too. Nicole feels like Keith doesn’t support her, but how can he when she doesn’t tell him what’s going on?” says the source.
“The constant stress of their heated arguments is taking its toll on both of them. Nicole is thinner than ever and Keith is worn out from all the fighting.
“The way things are going, nobody would be surprised if they decided to call it quits once and for all.”
