Despite her A-list lifestyle, the actress is struggling to make ends meet
With few acting jobs to her name in recent times, those close to Katie Holmes suspect the star is living well outside her means, with some friends alleging she’s living paycheque to paycheque.
This comes as the 40-year-old solo mum of 13-year-old Suri Cruise attempts to offload her incredible LA mansion for an eye-watering $6.7 million after owning it for just five years.
“Katie’s barely had a decent role in a decade, and she’s single-handedly keeping an insane penthouse apartment in New York, along with putting Suri through school for almost $100K a year,” says a source.
“It doesn’t help that between her and Suri, they have extremely expensive taste in designer fashions, and she doesn’t know how to say no to her daughter. Her bank account must surely be getting extremely tight.”
HEADING EAST
Katie purchased her Tudor-style home in the luxe Calabasas enclave in 2014 for around $4 million, despite rarely spending time in LA.
The six-bedroom property features a pool, a fire pit and a half-basketball court, which the actress was said to enjoy with her ex, Jamie Foxx, who she split from in August.
Along with ditching her prime west-coast real estate, reports out of the US reveal she’s going cap-in-hand to major brands in the hope of securing big-bucks endorsement deals.
“Talk is she’s pulling in $29K for red carpets, and she wants to do a lot more,” says the source, who adds she’s hoping the big fashion designers will pony up to have her sitting front row.
“She heard Kim Kardashian gets $145K just to show up to a Vegas night club and she’s eager to get in on that, too.”
Katie, who divorced
Tom Cruise in 2012 and allegedly passed up a settlement in favour of keeping sole custody of Suri, has also been the face of Quaker Oats, Bobbi Brown makeup and Altema Haircare.
CASHFLOW CATASTROPHE
“Katie’s after a quick buck and it’s much easier to achieve that through endorsements than it is sweating away on a film set for six months,” says our source.
The insider notes Katie’s alleged cashflow problem, which her rep denies, began after she split from Jamie, whose net worth is around $130 million.
“For all their ups and downs, Jamie was incredibly generous and she literally didn’t have to put her hands in her pockets the whole time they were together,” says our insider.
