Ben Affleck’s latest romance has those closest to him worried
When a couple fall in love, meet the parents, go on a holiday, and move in together amid whispers of a pregnancy, it’s usually a cause for a celebration among friends.
Not, however, when one half of that couple is a fragile, recovering alcoholic who was urged not to date until he got his problems under control.
And that is exactly the concern for those close to actor Ben Affleck, who has thrown himself into a relationship with his much younger Deep Water co-star, Ana de Armas.
The actress has a track record of making a play for famous men – and seemingly reaped the rewards career-wise.
AGAINST MEDICAL ADVICE
According to a source, “Those close to Ben, including his ex-wife Jennifer Garner, are deeply suspicious of Ana and Ben’s love for her.
‘‘Everyone knows addicts aren’t meant to date while they’re recovering because they tend to replace booze and drugs with co-dependency, and Ben has absolutely thrown himself into this new relationship with her against even doctors’ advice.”
Making matters worse is that Woman’s Day’s sources close to the dad-of-three have heard he’s drinking beer again, after being in and out of rehab for alcoholism since 2016.
“Word is that Ben was justifying having a few brews by saying it’s not beer he has a problem with, but liquor, while he was on holiday with Ana in Costa Rica,” says a source.
‘Those close to Ben are deeply suspicious of Ana’
“Ana hasn’t been with him through the whole saga, so she probably has no idea how dangerous an attitude that is – alcohol is alcohol to someone with a problem – and she should have stopped it immediately.”
Perhaps most concerning of all though, especially to Jennifer, 47 – who shares Violet, 14, Seraphina, 11, and Samuel, eight, with Ben – is that she’s not convinced Bond girl Ana, 31, is with her ex for the right reasons.
“A lot of Ben’s friends have looked at this woman’s past and so far it’s not looking promising,” says a source. “Ana appears to have a habit of falling for her co-stars, but never for long.”
STRING OF A-LIST FLINGS
They’re not wrong. Ever since Ana burst onto the scene as Hollywood’s sexiest new ingenue, she’s been linked to her Bond co-star Daniel Craig and A-listers such as Keanu Reeves and Edgar Ramirez. Just recently she was seen cuddling up to Rami Malek at Paris Fashion Week. “Ana’s smart and knows linking herself to leading men is a surefire way to build her profile,” says a source.
“And she’s got to be happy with the press she’s been receiving, since she was revealed in the media to be dating Ben – who, despite his issues, is still one of Hollywood’s most eligible and powerful guys,” adds the source.
