‘SHE MADE LIFE SO BEAUTIFUL’
Kelly and husband John Travolta experienced the highest of highs – and the lowest of lows – during their magical 28-year marriage
It was love at first sight for John Travolta when he met his dazzlingly beautiful wife Kelly Preston at a screen test in 1987 for the comedy film The Experts. But it took three more years before the Grease star managed to sweep the actress, best known for her roles in Jerry Maguire and Twins, off her feet with a romantic proposal on New Year’s Eve inside the Palace Hotel in Gstaad, Switzerland in 1990, before later marrying her twice – once in Paris and a second time at Daytona Beach in Florida in 1991.
Heartbreakingly last week, John, 66, revealed he was mourning the loss of his “beautiful wife”, after a private two-year battle with cancer. She was just 57.
“It is with a very heavy heart that I inform you that my beautiful wife Kelly has lost her two-year battle with breast cancer. She fought a courageous fight with the love and support of so many,” John bravely shared on Instagram, before thanking everyone for their support. “Kelly’s love and life will always be remembered.”
The news of her cancer battle came as a shock to those outside of the couple’s inner circle with the Scientologists choosing to keep her fight private. Just days after her death, John and Kelly’s daughter Ella Bleu, 20
– they also share son Benjamin, nine – took to social media to remember her mother in a poignant post.
“I have never met anyone as courageous, strong, beautiful and loving as you,” she wrote. “Anyone who is lucky enough to have known you or to have ever been in your presence will agree that you have a glow

and a light that never ceases to shine and that makes anyone around you feel instantly happy... You have made life so beautiful and I know you will continue to do so always. I love you so much mama.”
Sadly, it’s not the first heartbreak for John, who tragically lost girlfriend Diana Hyland to breast cancer in 1977, before devastatingly losing his eldest son Jett in 2009 during a family holiday to the Bahamas.
Jett, 16, suffered a seizure and hit his head in a bathtub.
“[ Jett] was autistic, he had seizures and when he was very young, he had Kawasaki syndrome [an acute febrile illness that causes inflammation in blood vessels throughout the body],” Kelly revealed at the time.
John and Kelly went on to have another son, Ben, in 2010 with the actor revealing that his birth had given them a new purpose.
“Having little Ben has been a beautiful kind of glue for us to rebond after a tremendous loss,” he said in 2016.
Despite all the ups and downs of their marriage, the pair were still madly in love with each other and marked their 28th wedding anniversary last year with sweet Instagram tributes to each other.
John shared a photo of himself and his wife hugging while at dinner, writing, “Happy Anniversary to my wonderful wife,” while Kelly shared a longer tribute to her husband.
“To my dearest Johnny, the most wonderful man I know. You have given me hope when I have felt lost, loved me patiently and unconditionally... made me laugh harder than any other human being possible... shared the most beautiful highs and at times lows,” she wrote.
“You’re a dream Daddio and make life so much fun! I trust my love with you implicitly… with you I know I will always be okay no matter what happens... I love you forever and completely.”
