ALEX CUBIS ‘I’VE LEARNED NOT TO LIMIT MYSELF’

-

Starring as the invincible Danny Grey in the Seven drama Between Two Worlds, Alex Cubis tells Woman’s Day he’s hoping people will resonate with the character. And the Sydney-born star, 28, reveals he’s all too familiar with the show’s premise of “tangled worlds”, balancing life as a lawyer, actor, producer and model.

What initially interested you in the show and the role of Danny Grey?

Bevan Lee is an iconic writer in Australian television, so I knew if an opportunity to play a character in one of his series came up, I’d jump at the chance.

A lot has changed since filming wrapped. What have you been up to since the pandemic struck?

Although I’ve been stuck in LA, it’s not all bad! I’m lucky to have my own law business, so I’ve been able to focus on that. I’m somewhat of a homebody, so I’ve enjoyed the chance to hit the reset button.

So you’re a lawyer, and an actor and model. They’re worlds apart – how did you fall into that?

I’ve been drawn to acting since I was a kid. In today’s world, I think it’s important not to limit yourself to choosing a single path. It breaks with traditional thinking, but that mindset has allowed me to explore creative outlets while maintaining a more conventional business.

The show can be intense and your character has some heated interactions. How do you channel all that rage on set?

This story tends to lead its characters down some dark paths, with inevitable conflict. I tried to connect to Danny and take on his challenges as if they were my own, allowing them to become real in the moment.

BETWEEN TWO WORLDS premieres Sunday, 8.30pm, Seven
