THE REAL REASON SAM WAS AXED!
A long-simmering feud is casting a dark shadow over the SATC revival
When it was revealed last week that a Sex And The City reboot had the green light, it came with more fanfare than a 50 per cent off Manolo Blahnik sale. But the news was quickly overshadowed by the fact that one member of the show’s quartet – Samantha Jones, played by Kim Cattrall – would not be back for the revival, which is entitled
And Just Like That.
Despite being best friends onscreen, it’s long been reported that all was not well in real life between Kim, 64, and the show’s main star, Sarah Jessica
Parker, aka protagonist Carrie Bradshaw.
“They have never been friends – in fact, towards the end of their time working together, it’s safe to say Kim began to loathe Sarah,” says a source. “Kim found her to be incredibly two-faced and feels she was super controlling of the script and jealous of other cast members, especially
when Samantha became a fan favourite.”
Their feud boiled over into the public domain in 2018, when Kim’s brother died by suicide. SJP, 55, sent a public message of sympathy on social media – prompting a furious reaction from Kim.
“Your continuous reaching out is a painful reminder of how cruel you really were then and now,” she wrote. “Let me make this VERY clear (if I haven’t already) You are not my friend. So I’m writing to tell you one last time to stop exploiting our tragedyd t i in orderd tto restoret your nice-girl persona.”
Now, with Sarah reuniting with Cynthia Nixon, 54, as sharptalking Miranda Hobbes and Kristin Davis, 55, as “Upper East Side Princess” Charlotte YorkGoldenblatt, Kim is missing out on a rumoured $1.3 million per episode for the series, which begins filming later this year. However, she is far from worried. “Kim liked playing a sexual pioneer who encouraged women to be themselves, but she thought the writing for Samantha in the movies was borderline culturally offensive,” says a source. “I doubt she’ll even watch the reboot.”
