The Sex and The CIty cast pay a heartfelt tribute to their co-star
Despite their ongoing feuds, the Sex And The City family came together to share tributes about their co-star Willie Garson, who passed away on September 21 after a battle with pancreatic cancer.
Cynthia Nixon says the show’s cast “all loved” and “adored working” with Willie while former co-star Kim Cattrall fondly remembered the 57-year-old, best known for playing Carrie Bradshaw’s confidant Stanford Blatch in the beloved TV series.
“Such sad news and a terribly sad loss to the SATC family. Our condolences and RIP dear Willie xo,” the actress gushed on social media.
Despite his illness, Willie had been busy shooting scenes for the show’s reboot, And Just Like That, in the weeks before his death. Executive producer Michael Patrick King says he was dedicated to the series right until the end. “The Sex And The City family has lost one of its own,” he said in a statement. “His spirit and his dedication to his craft was present every day filming And Just Like That. He was there – giving us his all – even while he was sick. His multitude of gifts as an actor and person will be missed by everyone. In this sad, dark moment, we are comforted by our memory of his joy and light.”
The actor, who also appeared in NYPD Blue, White Collar and Stargate SG-1, may have won praise in Hollywood, but his favourite role was father. Willie adopted son Nathen, now 20, as a single parent in 2009. “I really wanted a child more than anything else. And I got one and we’re partners, my kid and I,” the star said last year.
In a touching Instagram tribute, Nathen thanked his famous father for sharing his “adventures”.
“I love you so much papa,” the college student wrote. “I’m so proud of you. I will always love you, but I think it’s time for you to go on an adventure of your own.”
