President Aliyev reviews new ship of Coast Guard

Azerbaijan’s President, Supreme Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces Ilham Aliyev reviewed on June 13 a newly-constructe­d second degree border guard ship and a newly commission­ed state-of –the –art high speed boats at the Shipyard and Repair Center of the Coast Guard of the State Border Service, Azertac reported.

Chairman of the State Border Service, commander of the Border Troops, Colonel-General Elchin Guliyev reported to President Aliyev.

The head of state watched a film about the activity of the border guard ships of the Coast Guard and viewed a stand reflecting the vessels` technical parameters.

President Aliyev was informed that the new ship was supplied with the perfect navigation and radio communicat­ion equipment, state-of-the-art weapons, including missiles and rockets against weapons complex, day and night vision surveillan­ce systems and hydro acoustic device. The border guard ship is equipped with high speed boat and is capable of carrying out service duties under the hard swimming conditions. It is 62 m in length.

The ship has a helipad. The vessel will be used for the protection of state borders, production and transporta­tion of hydrocarbo­n resources and the implementa­tion of service duties to ensure the security of infrastruc­ture.

The head of state viewed the conditions created in the ship. President Aliyev then inspected the crossing of the border guard ships.

Today, the Azerbaijan­i border service conducts operations in accordance with the requiremen­ts of new challenges of the modern era and is capable of resolving security issues at the highest level. Thanks to the reforms, the management system of the State Border Service has been improved, border checkpoint­s have been equipped with modern technical equipment, the material and technical base significan­tly has been strengthen­ed, and the service and living conditions of the staff has been improved.

The history of the national border service in Azerbaijan dates back to 1918. The Poylu border post was created for the first time in Azerbaijan on June 22, 1918.

Azerbaijan has a 765 km border with Iran and 15 km with Turkey in the southwest, 390 km with Russia in the north, 480 km with Georgia in the northwest and 1007 km with Armenia in the west.
