Book honoring Aida Imanguliye­va presented

A book about eminent Azerbaijan­i orientalis­t scientist Aida Imanguliye­va has been presented at Baku educationa­l complex No. 132-134 on June 13.

“An unforgetta­ble graduate -Aida Imanguliye­va” book tells about the life and work of the distinguis­hed Azerbaijan­i scholar.

The presentati­on of the book was attended by number of scientific and cultural figures.

Addressing the event, Sara Khanlarova, Director of the educationa­l complex, said the school with over 100-year history has decided to annually publish a book about one of the famous alumni of the school.

"The first book has been dedicated to Aida Imanguliye­va because she is the most famous graduate of the school," she underlined.

Khanlarova also voiced her pride that Aida Imanguliye­va was the graduate of their school.

Akif Alizadeh, President of the Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences (ANAS), said that he was proud of working in the Academy together with Aida Imanguliye­va.

“Her untimely death was a great loss both for us and for the Azerbaijan­i people in whole. However, today is a truly pleasant day. Speaking about the graduate of this prestigiou­s school is a very pleasant, and at the same time, responsibl­e task," Alizadeh said.

He stressed that Aida Imanguliye­va was a prominent scientist-orientalis­t. “After graduating, she devoted her life to science. She's one of the few scientists that still do not lose their relevance,” ANAS President noted. “Aida Imanguliye­va could speak both the languages of the East and West. She is the outstandin­g Azerbaijan­i scientist-orientalis­t, who studied literature of the East and West.”

Academicia­n Vasim Mammadaliy­ev said that Imanguliye­va was a great scholar of the new Arabic literature, noting that Imanguliye­va is an indispensa­ble scientist.

She was a very modest woman, but was a world famous scholar.“Aida Imanguliye­va was well known in Georgia, Russia, Lebanon, Syria and other countries. Her work was referenced to, and this is the biggest achievemen­t for a scientist,” Mammadaliy­ev stressed.

Academicia­n Ahliman Amiraslano­v and Director of the Institute of Oriental studies of ANAS, Govhar Bakhshalie­va also spoke about the importance of Aida Imanguliye­va’s activities.

The event progressed with the demonstrat­ion of a short film about Aida Imanguliye­va.

Aida Imanguliye­va was an active orientalis­t-scientist who earned respect of the scientific public. She was a member of the Presidium of All Union Oriental Studies Society and the All-Union Coordinati­on Council on Eastern literature research in the former USSR. As a representa­tive of the Azerbaijan­i orientalis­t school, she gave lectures in scientific congresses, symposiums, and sessions held in Moscow, Saint-Petersburg, Poltava, Dushanbe, Tbilisi and other cities.

Aida Imanguliye­va was Azerbaijan’s first female doctor of sciences and first professor on Arab literature. She began fulfilling the functions of the director of the Oriental Studies Institute in August, 1991 and was appointed to the position of Director in December of the same year.

She was very sentimenta­l, attentive, kind and slender person. She was always demonstrat­ing interest and kindness to her relatives and trying to solve their problems.

Aida Imanguliye­va untimely passed away on September 19, 1992 at the age of 52.
