Provision of cyber security and fighting cybercrime remains one of the main challenges in the world as cyber threat continues to increase in severity and sophistication. All countries, including Azerbaijan take steps to eliminate effects of cyberattacks as a damage caused by cybercrime committed every year in the world is estimated at several billion dollars.

The increase in the number of cyber threats influences business. The company revealed that the number of attacks against the corporate sector grew six-fold, surging from 27,000 in 2014-2015 to 158,000 in 2015-2016.

Cybersecurity focuses on protecting computers, networks, programs and data from unintended or unauthorized access, change and destruction.

As much as 48 percent of companies in the world lost the access to important data as a result of cyber incident in 2015, according to the results of the investigation held by Kaspersky lab jointly with B2B International Company.

Target attacks constitute the biggest menace as they may be implemented without the use of software. Main distinction is that such attacks are thoroughly worked out for certain companies and most of the protective devices are not able to detect them. Attackers usually target the most important and confidential information of enterprises.

Experts say that the most important spheres such as energy, construction, industry, telecommunications, transport and defense usually become targets for attackers. Cyber incidents negatively affect business environment, hurt the reputation of enterprises and lead to the loss of important data and fails in business processes or a halt in entire operations of enterprises.

Being an actual reality in Azerbaijan, cyber crime raises concern as the country is currently engaged in the realization of different largescale projects.

Earlier, MP Tair Mirkishili said that the country should tighten cyber security measures alongside with the implementation of strategically important projects.

Cyber Security Center (CERT) which was established in 2013 continuously works in the search for greater security. The centre uses brand-new security systems in its efforts to repulse cyber attacks and examines practical experience and operation of analogous foreign companies.
