Control over e-trade toughened

- By Nigar Abbasova

Azerbaijan’s Taxes Ministry will toughen supervision over e-trade and paid services rendered through the Internet. The relevant order was signed by President Ilham Aliyev to improve tax administration in the country.

Specialists of the ministry are currently engaged in the preparation of a new effective mechanism, which envisages bringing of e-trade to taxation.

The ministry reported that all internet resources, created for commercial purposes in the country should be registered, while their income should be declared. The ministry also said that “emoney”, used in e-trade complicate tax control in the sphere. Moreover, such operations are transnational, which in turn creates additional problems for tax control.

Registration of taxpayers, engaged in e-trade is expected to positively influence the processes related to the protection of consumers' rights, creating good conditions for the regulation of relations between sellers and purchasers.

The ministry mentioned that the country possesses a good potential for bringing e-trade to taxation, taking into consideration the growing number of Internetusers and the volume of e-trade, as well as measures taken to stimulate application of non-cash payment in the country.

Meanwhile, e-price tags are expected to be introduced in the country in the short run. Cofounder of Yoroca Bilişim Hizmetleri Azerbaijan Sadig Gumbatov, told Trend that talks on the issue are currently under way with the country’s largest trade networks.

The system of e-tagging, which is based on e-paper technology, is widely used in most of the European countries to provide for automation of services.

The switch from paper tags to e-tags will allow to change prices promptly (for example in the periods of marketing actions), shorten working hours spent on printing and change of paper tags, as well as reduce the number of complains related to the mismatch between declared and real price of the product.

Moreover, the tags may also contain short information about the product. Tags are batterypowered, while information is being sent by means of radio waves or infrared link.
