The prestigious international defense exhibition in the region -- ADEX – is underway in Azerbaijan’s capital Baku.

Bringing together 216 companies from 34 countries, as well as 25 official delegations from 19 countries, the exhibition opens the way to new approaches that meet modern security challenges in defense industry.

Sophisticated weapons and vehicles are demonstrated in pavilions. Being held for the second time, ADEX 2016 is a good platform for the participants to determine new areas of cooperation.

The Azerbaijani pavilion at the exhibition is presenting over 260 kinds of defense products and special-purpose weapons and ammunition.

The high-explosive air bomb QFAB-100SAB is one of the main ammunitions attracting attention to Azerbaijan’s pavilion. These bombs, produced by the enterprises of Azerbaijan’s Defense Industry Ministry, are designed to destroy enemy’s armored vehicles and manpower.

Another domestic production is new model of “Gurza” armored vehicle. The difference of the new armored fighting vehicle from the usual version of Gurza is that three kinds of weapons can be installed on it - NSV-12.7 mm heavy machine gun, AGS-30 automatic mounted grenade launcher and a turret for anti-tank guided missiles.

The 7.62 mm machine gun installed in the vehicle with 2,500 cubic meters engine, is able to shoot 800 times in a minute.

Its engine volume is 2,500 cubic centimeters. The vehicle is 5,270 mm long, 1,680 mm wide and 2,120 mm high.

Azerbaijan also put on show its new sniper rifle -- NST 14,5 mm. The sniper’s shooting distance is 2,000 m, while distance to destroy the target is 1,600 m. The rifle has beaten records among all large-caliber rifles in the world.

The rifle weighs 19 kilograms and has an effective distance of 1,600 meters. The rifle length is 1,900 mm with a 1,600-mm folding butt.

Speaking at the exhibition, Defense Industry Minister Yavar Jamalov gave information about Azerbaijan’s growing military power.

Jamalov said that the country is in talks on bringing technology of ballistic missiles with a range of 280 km to Azerbaijan. “Today, negotiations are underway with several leading manufacturers of military equipment on acquisition of various missile technologies,” he said.

The minister noted that the priority projects of the Defense Industry Ministry covers 125 items of military production, which are under the development work. Moreover, the work also covers "ground-to-air", "air-air", and "ground-to-ground" missiles.

The minister also spoke about the recently presented unmanned aerial vehicles “Zarba”. ““Zarba” became the specter of death for Armenian army,” Jamalov said during the event.

He further emphasized that negotiations are underway with the Azerbaijani Defense Ministry and hundreds of drones have already been ordered.

As part of the exhibition, Jamalov and Defense Minister Zakir Hasanov signed a memorandum of supplying Azerbaijani Armed Forces with unmanned aerial vehicles (UAV) of the local production.

ADEX 2016 will last for four days, wrapping up on September 30.

Strong Armed Forces are the important factor for restoring Azerbaijan's territorial integrity and sovereignty by peaceful means, and settle the Nagorno Karabakh conflict on the basis of international law. Baku is keen to solve the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict through peace negotiations, but reserves the right to liberate its occupied territories.
