Baku's most-visited art museum hosts wonderful event
Azerbaijan Carpet Museum, one of Baku's most striking architectural and cultural gems, hosted a truly wonderful event! "The Play of Varicolored Filaments collection of the Pirot Kilims in the Ethnographic Museum in Belgrade" exhibition was held in the museum on October 7.
Azerbaijan Carpet Museum, one of Baku's most striking architectural and cultural gems, hosted a truly wonderful event! "The Play of Varicolored Filaments collection of the Pirot Kilims in the Ethnographic Museum in Belgrade" exhibition was held in the museum on October 7.
The exhibition showcased the Pirot Kilims collection, which is one of the oldest and most important collections in Serbia, including 169 carpet products woven in 17921932. Pirot Kilims are distinguished as the most perfect products of the Serbian national art of weaving for their cultural, historical and artistic value.
Sevda Mammadaliyeva, Azerbaijan's Deputy Minister of Culture and Tourism, addressing the event, spoke about the place of national carpet weaving art in the cultural wealth of the Azerbaijani people.
She said that the country pays great attention to the development of this art form. Everything is done for its preservation and development. By order of President Ilham Aliyev, the brand new building of the Carpet Museum was opened in 2012.
At the initiative of Azerbaijan's First Lady Mehriban Aliyeva, Azerbaijan’s traditional art of carpet weaving was included in the UNESCO Representative List of Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.
Director of the Belgrade Museum of Ethnography, Mirjana Minkova talked about the cultural and historical value of the collection.
The guests were also greeted by Director of Azerbaijan Carpet Museum Shirin Melikova, who briefly informed the guests about the history and the museum's collection
"Today's exhibition of the Belgrade ethnographic Museum is the first project in the framework of the Memorandum signed in 2015. The Belgrade ethnographic Museum will host an exhibition of Azerbaijani carpets in 2017", she said.
Notably, on April 7, 2015 fiveyear memorandum of cooperation was signed between the Azerbaijan Carpet Museum and the Ethnographic Museum in Belgrade in the field of culture, development of museum work and protection of cultural heritage.
