Production of flat glass to be launched

Aplant for the production of flat glass will be built in Azerbaijan, according to the Economy Ministry.

AzerFloat, a resident of the Sumgayit Chemical Industrial Park and German HORN Glass Industries AG company inked a relevant agreement.

HORN Glass Industries AG, having 125 years of experience in the field of glass melting technology, will carry out the design of the enterprise for the production of glass boards, as well as to equip the enterprise with modern equipment and technology.

AzerFloat carries out production of glass boards in Sumgait Chemical Industrial Park using the float method [heat forming method of the metal melt].

The production capacity of the plant will be eight million square meters of various glass boards per year. The project will provide some 150 people with work places.

The plant, with a total investment of 89 million euros, will be put into operation in late 2018.

Currently, the country's demand for flat glass is provided through imports. Production made by AzerFloat, along with meeting the local demand, will also be exported to foreign countries under the brand ‘Made in Azerbaijan’.

The Sumgayit Chemical Industrial Park establishe­d in 2011 covers an area of 167.66 hectares and resides nearby Sumgayit city that is 32.5 km away from Baku. The Park is able to accommodat­e 35-40 companies, which provides the opening of 10,000 new jobs.

The appropriat­e external and internal infrastruc­ture (electricit­y, heating, water supply, communicat­ion and other systems) with offices, training centers, offices, laboratory, etc. were establishe­d within the Park to enable profitable activity and developmen­t of entreprene­urs and produce competitiv­e products and render services through the applicatio­n of modern technologi­es.

To make the Park more attractive for investors its residents are exempt from paying income, land and property taxes for seven years. Moreover, equipment and technology used in the park are also exempt from value-added tax.

Overall, the Sumgayit Chemical Industrial Park now includes the following residents: Azertexnol­ayn, SOCAR Polymer, Azerfloat, Azerbaijan Fibro Cement, SIKA company, and Baku Non-Ferrous Metals & Ferroalloy­s Company, MST Engineerin­g LLC.
