- By Laman Ismayilova

Be afraid, be very afraid… Halloween has snuck up on us again. It's the season for ghosts and vampires to take to the streets, asking for candy and scaring one another silly.

Straddling the line between fall and winter, life and death, Halloween is observed in a number of countries on October 31. It is widely believed that many Halloween traditions originated from the ancient Celtic festival of Samhain, when people would light bonfires and wear costumes to ward off roaming ghosts.

Celts believed that on the night before the new year, the boundary between the worlds of the living and the dead became blurred.

Today, Halloween activities include trick-or-treating, carving pumpkins into jack-o'-lanterns, lighting bonfires, apple bobbing and divination games, playing pranks, visiting haunted attractions and much more.
