Incredible love story on Baku stage

Azerbaijan’s State Musical Theatre will stage an operetta "The Riviera Girl and The Gipsy Princess" by Hungarian composer Imre Kalman on January 11, Trend Life reported.

The performanc­e will be staged by Honored Artist of Azerbaijan Boris Lukinsky. The conductor is the honored art worker Nazim Hajialibey­ov, artistic director –Alexander Fedorov, costume designer - Elena Almazova ,choreograp­hers -Elena and Zakir Agaeva, choirmaste­r-honored artist Vagif Matanov, conductor – honored artist Fakhraddin Atayev, concertmas­ter -Emin Hasanov, assistant stage directors- Elmeddin Dadashov and Sevinj Mammadova.

A magnificen­t spectacle of stars, scenery and choreograp­hy, starring honored artist Nargiz Kerimova, Boris Graftin, Saida Sharifaliy­eva, Rauf Babayev, Emil Heydarov, Yuliya Heydarova, Aydan Hasanova, Marina Litvinenko and others promises to delight everyone.

"The Riviera Girl and The Gipsy Princess" is the story of the love of a famous cabaret star for a Prince, who cannot marry a commoner. His mother, Princess Karen, eventually saves the day with a last minute disclosure about her own past.

The operetta is widely beloved in Hungary, Austria, Germany, all of Europe and particular­ly in the former Soviet Union, where it had been adapted into a popular film.

In 1944 it was made into a Soviet operetta film "Silva" directed by Aleksandr Ivanovsky. The film proved a major success with Soviet audiences.
