President Aliyev: Chingiz Gurbanov demonstrated power of Azerbaijani soldier

Chingiz Gurbanov has once again demonstrated the enemy what an Azerbaijani soldier is capable of.

President Ilham Aliyev made the statement at a meeting with the family members of the National Hero, who was martyred while preventing a provocation of an Armenian reconnaissance-raiding group which attempted to violate the state border of Azerbaijan on December 29, 2016.

“Your son - soldier Chingiz Gurbanov died heroically last year, on December 29, defending his motherland. Chingiz showed great heroism and courage. Meeting face to face with the enemy in an unequal battle, he once again demonstrated the enemy what an Azerbaijani soldier is capable of. Although Chingiz alone faced with a large subversive group, he did not give up and did not fear. He fought to the last breath, destroyed several occupiers, and fell martyr. We are proud of Chingiz, the entire Azerbaijan is proud of Chingiz. This once again demonstrates that a citizen of Azerbaijan, Azerbaijani youth, Azerbaijani soldiers will never agree with the current situation. This once again shows that the Azerbaijani state has strong soldiers. hat was a demonstration of patriotism, professionalism and courage,” said the president.

President Aliyev earlier signed an order conferring the title of National Hero of Azerbaijan upon soldier Chingiz Gurbanov posthumously for his special services in protection of Azerbaijan's territorial integrity and bravery shown while performing a combat mission.

The head of state stressed that insidious enemy again showed its inhuman essence to the world. The Armenian side for over a month refused to return the body.

"More than a month they did not want to return the body of Chingiz. The Azerbaijani government has put great efforts. At the same time our appeal to the international organizations did not remain unanswered. Together, we were able to return back the body of Chingiz,” the president said.

The body of Chingiz Gurbanov was delivered from Armenia to Azerbaijan on February 5, 2017, thanks to necessary measures taken by state authorities in cooperation with international organizations under the instructions of President Aliyev.

On the last days of December a reconnaissance group of the Armenian Armed Forces attempted to violate the Azerbaijan-Armenia state border. The Armenian group found itself in an ambush of the Azerbaijani army while violating the borders and suffered heavy losses. During the fighting, Chingiz Gurbanov went missing. Later, it was clarified that he was killed by the Armenian Armed Forces and his body remained on the territory controlled by the Armenian Armed Forces.

The martyred soldier was laid to rest in the Alley of Martyrs in his hometown of Gusar on February 6.
