Baku Jazz Festival joins Europe Jazz Network
Baku Jazz Festival has become a member of the Europe Jazz Network, which bring together 115 members from 34 countries.
Baku Jazz Festival become the first EJN member from Azerbaijan, Azertac reported.
Since 2005, Baku Jazz Festival promotes jazz in Baku and reveals new talents. The large-scaled project is organized by the Culture and Tourism Ministry of Azerbaijan, Azerbaijan Culture Foundation and Jazz Dunyasi magazine.
Baku Jazz Festival is a forum and musical festival including education (seminars, master classes), competition ("Best Jazz Performer"), a "Kids jazz day", art and photo exhibitions, jam sessions and jazz concerts with the participation of best performers of the world of jazz.
The revival of jazz in the Land of Fire started in 1960s, thanks to the active efforts of great national composers such as Gara Garayev, Tofig Guliyev, Rauf Hajiyev and Niyazi.
The “flowering” of Azerbaijani jazz is associated with the names of giants such as Rafig Babayev and Vagif Mustafazade, who experimented creating unrepeatable compositions, becoming the founders of a new jazz trend jazz-mugham. This unique genre assembles both a traditional Azerbaijan music and a classic American jazz.
Today, Azerbaijani jazz performers are winners of many international jazz festivals and competitions.
Europe Jazz Network (EJN) is a Europe-wide association of producers, presenters and supporting organisations who specialize in creative music, contemporary jazz and improvised music created from a distinctly European perspective.
“Red Garden” film by Azerbaijani director Mirbala Salimli was awarded Best Feature Film at "Spiritual Films" contest within the 15th Dhaka International Film Festival.
The main award was presented by a jury from Canada, Iceland, Italy, Kyrgyzstan and Philippines, Trend Life reported.
The film tells the story of a provincial teacher from blue blood, Abbas. А desperate desire of having his own son makes him so indifferent to orphan in his custody and even to deadlock situation of his beloved spouse Vafa. But everything changes, when he himself causes Vafa’s death. Now in the otherworld Abbas is craving to have back all the things that he couldn’t protect in this world…
Cast includes Magsud Mammadov, Gulzar Gurbanova, and Taleh Badiyev. A film was co-produced by AzerbaijanFilm Company and White Media, (Russia).
Notably, Red Garden has been nominated for award “Best film of CIS and Baltic countries” at the 30th Nika awards ceremony in Russia, as well as invited to the "Ambitious debut" of Austrian LET'S CEE Film Festival.
The feature film was screened at Kazakhstan’s 12th Eurasia, Germany’s 65th Mannheim-Heidelberg, Egypt’s 38th Cairo, Turkey’s 5th “Van Lake” and Bulgaria’s 9th “Sofia MENAR” international film festivals.
The “Red Garden” represented Azerbaijan at the 7th European Film Festival held in Baku.
